Hi friends

Would you share a gentle patch removal technique ?

I have used hot water before to loosen hide glue, but how can you remove a patch without loosening adjacent joints that you want to keep intact ?

would you inject water in the joint?

Dr Rod,

I would carve it out to within a very small shaving left and then place a wet hot cloth to soften the glue and scrape the remainder. I would not get it WET.
What kind of patch, top or back?

your suggestion makes sense.

it's a back patch

(BTW, I have fond memories of Michigan, I used to play for the Flint, Ann Arbor, and Kalamazoo symphonies)
