Paul Anka rips his band [transpcript]:

What was the film that documented Sting's first tour after The Police? Was it "Bring On The Night"? IIRC, Sting was inappropriately lecturing the band and Wynton Marsalis, Darryl Jones and Omar Hakim were rolling their eyes? It's been a few years; am I near target on this?

*Imagining Wynton and Sting in the same band.*

:D

You're close... it was Branford.

It would if Sting were paying the bill. He, who signs the check, wins. That's what it means to be a pro--and not rolling your eyes when you think the boss isn't looking.

I do understand the "he who writes the checks makes the rules and if you don't like it leave" concept. However, the kind of band Sting put together for that tour =/= a Paul Anka "do you know who I am" situation.

Sting was the great pop/rock songwriter [with the ego to match], but anyone in that band could play rings around him. It was an awkward scene IIRC.

I tried to find the clip, but came up with empty. Perhaps someone else will have better luck.
