Macca did a lot of overdubs back in London and recorded many songs that he didn’t do in Nigeria for band on the run lp. So most likely he used the Rick for all or most of the songs . He probably didn’t wanna bring the Rick to Africa so he brought along a cheap jazz for the adventure …. And my guess is that those weren’t proper recording that wings did down there . The real recordings for the album were when they were back in London.

A lot of you will already know this, but Band On The Run was recorded under adverse conditions in Lagos, Nigeria. Two band members quit the night before they left, leaving just Paul, Linda and Denny Laine, and when they got to Nigeria, they found that the EMI studio there was in very bad condition. Geoff Emerick did the best he could to get things in reasonable readiness to record, building baffles and fixing gear, but he only had so much time and Paul was raring to go. The story was probably exaggerated . I highly doubt that they used much of the original recording from
Lagos on the final album.

The tapes were stolen in Nigeria when Paul and Linda were mugged. As far as I know they were never recovered. Paul had to go back to London and recreate the sessions from memory. He may have used the Jazz Bass originally but it sounds like his Rickenbacker to me.
