Paul McCartney vs Gene Simmons

I saw KISS last night and while nothing Gene played made me drop to my knees in awe, his playing fits his songs and never sounds out of place.

Gene is a decent musician. He's made a very successful career of it (Kiss played for 13 years without the blood and make-up so they are not *entirely* about the show) and his playing fits in well with the music he plays. Does he make the list of the top 100 most creative or technically dexterous bassists of all time? Absolutely not. But he's been very influential and very successful for the past 40 years. If you want to say he's terrible you have to also talk about bassists who do not show his level of creativity with the instrument (Sid Vicious, Pete Wentz, Ian Hill, etc.).

No one gets it, do they? Does anybody actually know who GENE'S INFLUENCES ARE when it comes to playing bass? His first major influence when it comes to playing bass is one Paul McCartney, with Felix Papalardi a distant second. Hell, Gene openly admits that he straight-up, rips off Paul's playing style. Think about it, what kinda bass lines do they both play? Their lines are both counter-melodies to the main melody of the songs. Not like Cliff Williams pumpin' out eighth-notes. Everybody rags on Gene's playing. I have no idea what to tell you if you can't see a STRONG SIMILARITY in their styles of play. I read an interview just a few years ago that when it comes to writing a bass line, HE STILL ASKS HIMSELF, "What would Paul McCartney play?"
So, my opinion is: When it comes to McCartney? Gene Simmons is a fan of him, like the rest of us players.

KISS had Jimi Hendrix' producer produce their best albums. Not like they're hurting for cred, even though cred is stupid.
Oh, Jimmy, this thread is all fun and games at this point to me.
Gene cowrote with Lou Reed also...just puttin that in there
I did not know that. That was probably an odd conversation.

Paul worked with the producer of the Beatles.

Paul also worked with the drummer of the Beatles, and personally knew Mal Evans.
