A few years back, Paul played Piedmont Park..Naturally, we had temps in 90's.waayyy too humid followed by rains.

Paul's introducing comment "Now, we're not gonna let a little rain stop us are we??"

My wife uses that as her attitude booster when things go awry...

I digress...

My life is: Before Beatles and after Beatles..simple as that...

My first rock concert was Beatles :"Atlanta Stadium ....Nose bleed seats.. screaming... tiny P A..and gone in less than half and hour...

Of course, I give credit to Paul for being a major inspiration for me to play electric bass.

His bass lines are so unique and his ability to play and sing amazes me.

I didn't know he played guitar until my early adult years.

My decision to purchase my first Rick is half Paul and half Chris Squire..totally divergent styles..and both are amazing bassists.

I still can't nail Pauls' tone on a Rick..even with flats...

Long live Sir Paul...

Wow. Great song list! He was in Memphis recently, but I wasn't able to go. The reviewer in the newspaper said it was an awesome show.

Five songs he's never played before plus two he hasn't played since 1976. Made for a great show.

On some dates he swaps out "And I Love Her" for "I've Just Seen a Face" and "I Saw Her Standing There" for "Get Back." He added "Midnight Special" at Bonnaroo and "Hope of Deliverance" in South America.

Here's an interesting little factoid: On the song "I Will," which is on the White Album, Paul SINGS the bass line. You can clearly hear it. Apparently, he laid that track down as a 'placeholder' until later when he planned to use a bass guitar. Then, he decided it sounded good as-is. Given the tone and style, I wonder if he had planned to use a double-bass.

McCartney is in a unique position. When I saw him 10 years ago, it occurred to me that he probably could have sold out the large arena for five straight nights... and never repeated a song... even without playing ANY Beatles songs which were predominantly Lennon's (e.g. "Hard Day's Night", "Come Together", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Help!", "I Feel Fine", "In My Life", "Ticket to Ride", "Nowhere Man", etc., etc.)
Just ponder that for a minute. It's absolutely amazing.

I've seen people right here on TB do it. I've had discussions with some of them. They often claim that his playing was too simple. They don't understand that playing the RIGHT notes at the RIGHT time is more important than playing a lot of notes.

Paul's playing always made the song better. It wasn't just chops for chops sake. I can play the bass line to "Something" in practice and everyone knows what song I am playing just from the bass line (this has happened several times with several bands). He had a lot of bass lines like that. His melodic bass lines weave around the melody of the song and become an integral part of it.

That's where it's at for me...trying to play the right note at the right time. And sometimes it's not as easy as it seems.

I always thought an early gem of his bass playing was on "Do You Want To Know A Secret." There's some serious stuff within the bass on that one. Very advanced.

An even earlier gem is his bass lines on "Ain't She Sweet." I mean, wow! Tony Sheridan (who the Beatles backed on "My Bonnie") said "overnight, Paul became thier bass player And he was a great bass player."

Makes me wonder. When Paul first started playing bass, I wonder how much wood shedding he did with the bass. I know he's a natural with music, so part of me thinks "what to play and what not to" came pretty quick to him. But still, I wonder if he spent much time alone with the bass to find his way around when he first started bass.

I doubt it was a placeholder, as it would take the same time and effort to record an actual bass part. I'm sure it was intentional, one of many examples where he/they went out of the way to make each song sound different from the others.
