Did anyone happen to see Paul Weller and his band perform Shades of Blue on the Jonathan Ross show on TV last Saturday 1st May 2021? It's also on You Tube if you want to take a look.

Just wondering what the white double cutaway bass guitar is. Thought it may have been a Gretsch or Guild but investigation of those brands turned up a blank. Thanks.

Maybe a Hofner 500/7 Verythin (or Verithin, as was)?

  5. Yup, Andy Crofts always plays a Hofner Verythin for Paul Weller.

  6. Didn't we see Crofts playing a 4004 with Weller on Later With Jools Holland ?

    Or was that someone else?
  7. That was the previous bass player Andy Lewis. I'm not sure he's still with the band?

It doesn't although it's comforting finally knowing that I am not the only one mixing Peter and Paul up.

I love Paul Weller but I miss Bruce Foxton.

Just had Setting Sons on today. So good. And man, the bass is LOUD in the mix!

Not sure I dig how Paul Weller is channeling Jimmy Savile's look

Thanks for posting Paul Weller Cosmic Fringes and THAT white Hofner bass. It's a beauty!

  19. I think Paul Weller might have got fed up with bass playing high in the mix. There isn't a single song since his Jam days where I have heard an inspiring bass line.
I'm a big fan of solo Weller and have tickets to see him on his postponed UK tour whenever that happens, but the bass playing on his songs since Bruce Foxton is very average. I would hazard a guess he creates the bass lines.

Tasty bass lines on this track in my humble opinion.
