Sort of obscure but he played on Gary Numans "I Assassin" In the early 80s, It was Garys Follow up to"dance" That had Mick Karn on fretless.

....Ok dont laugh so hard I was stationed in England in the early 80s and became a sort of numan fan

Gary Numans "I Assassin"

The specific song you want by Gary Numan is "We Take Mystery To Bed", though "I, Assassin" has a fairly cool bass line in it's own right. Don't just pick up any Numan song, his style has changed a lot over the years.

Extremely important point. Be sure to get tracks from D's "Voodoo" album cause that's the only one Pino's playing on. I especially recommend One mo' gin, Feel Like making love and Playa playa. Also check out the track "Penitentiary philosophy" with Erykah Badu and later day albums by Roy Hargrove's RH Factor if you like his current playing style.

I will definietly agree with the Roy Hargrove stuff. The album Roy Hargrove Presents: The RH Factor is great. Some tracks off of that one are:

Hardgroove - nice fretted work with some popping
I'll Stay - waaaay back in the pocket
Pastor "T"
The Joint - very D'Angelo feeling
Forget Regret

Reggie Washington plays a couple of outstanding tracks on that CD as well.

Yeah, Chameleons is pretty fantastic, too. Actually I'm listening to the album now and the whole darn thing is pretty impressive. The double bass track on "White Boys And Heros" is fairly mesmorizing. The 80s new wave feel is cool.

Voodo is a MUST HAVE for any groove-oriented bass player. It's pino at his best, and I was very surprised when I heard it. I really don't dig the slick eighties-fretless thing. But Voodo is just perfect. It's grooving so hard, you'r not gonna believe it.
