Pay pal incident( scam )

Regardless of the reason, that is doxing and 100% not permitted here. If Paypal rules in your favor, do you think you’d be ok with him putting your personal information out there just because he feels like he was wronged? I’d assume not.

Like I said, that’s what the feedback system is for. You can also address the help desk if you have evidence that you are being scammed or something of that nature.
Especially if he described the neck as “bent”. People in the know say warped or bowed. Sounds like a newb!

Yeah I thought the same thing that he does now know what he is talking about.

You guys suck when he sent the bass to me I was on vacation and I never had a chance to play it and when I finally did I realized the bass is horrible even though he described it as the best bass in the world. You don't know everything you don't know how to play I'm the best bass player there is on this forum and even though I've only been playing for 3 years I'm even better than anyone you ever heard. Just kidding! I bet I had your blood boiling!! Mine was even pretending to be the buyer haha

You got me. LOL.

This is why I never EVER sell a bass without bringing it to a 3rd party luthier the day before I ship the instrument. I pay $65 and the tech goes over the bass, sets it up, checks the neck, trussrod, body, electronics, etc. Any issues found I address or make the buyer aware. Then I ship it with a copy of the tech report to the buyer. This way there are no surprises for me or the buyer and the buyer can never come back months later with "new issues". Any proof PP wants is provided by a 3rd party company with written details of the condition when shipped (plus lots of pictures). It's $65 but it is the best insurance policy I know.

Do you think PayPal will say that "Oh, luthier Bob said that it was all good? We know Bob. We agree with you."? I think you're just adding $65 to your overhead.

fyi, a person can charge back on a credit card for a year and a half, and it just comes back out of your account. issues can arise with money orders, and there are ways to make claims on checks. the only way to be 100% sure no one can mess with your sales money is to only accept cash in person.

btw, my first guess is that the guy lives in a very different climate, the neck relief changed and he's a clueless guy who believes he got a bad bass with a bent neck. or he could just be a jerk.

So I'm here today because I sold a EBMM Stingray Special HH and I sold it a month and a half ago after buying it from zzounds I'm may I believe.. I sold it so I could by a Dingwall 5 string..Long story short is It was in mint condition and never left the house because of covid and I sold it to some guy in Pennsylvania and almost a month and a half later and I get an email that he filed a claim saying the neck was bent so no they want my side of the story and if I lose I have to pay him back the money and hopefully he sends back the bass and if he does send it back hopefully he did not mess the bass up and now I'm stuck with a messed up bass guitar..I've been playing for 20 years and never sold a bass online and I would never sell something if it was messed up its not my style,so this is new to me.but its bullcrap because that bass was MINT! I'm so upset that this person is pulling a fast one on me..I dont know what to do.any ideas would be great., mind you I gave him the bill of sale and proof that it was basically a brand new bass..I hope he did not mess the bass up and try putting his mistake on me.. below you will find pictures of the bass that was on my ad for the stingray..View attachment 4053699 View attachment 4053699 View attachment 4053700 View attachment 4053701 View attachment 4053702 View attachment 4053704 View attachment 4053705 View attachment 4053706 View attachment 4053707
Looks nice mate, I had an original 2 pick up fretless that was then called er...my memory.....Sabre anyway I sold it before the prices went up. But I only used the neck pickup I felt the Bridge was way to overpowering. What did you like to do with both pick ups??

eBay is weird.

My wife has me selling some of our daughter's old toys there. I sold a doll and got the shipping label by entering the dimensions and weight of the box on eBay's shipping page...it was about $15. Two months later out of the blue eBay charged me another $38 saying that I had underpaid for the shipping. So I call eBay and ask why, they tell me that it's just the USPS charging them, they pass it along, take it up with USPS, they gave me a 1-800 number to call, have a nice day, bye :sour: I'm not allowed to charge the buyer the extra shipping, either.

I expect to be stuck paying over $50 to ship a doll.

Haven't sold anything on eBay for a while but when I did I always made sure to use USPS Flat Rate boxes. They give them away at the Post Office and you know how much to charge the buyer based on the size of box the items fit into regardless of weight or destination. Never had a shipping problem that way. YMMV.

I’m puzzled. The guy had it a month and a half AND ONLY THEN he filed a claim? Am I missing part of the story?

Did you talk to him immediately after he received the bass to make sure he was kosher or was the next communication the claim itself?

I’ve only sold a few things through TB and virtually all via PayPal. No problems.
I also bird dog the sale from beginning to end. I track the shipment and call the buyer right when I see delivery consummated. I want the buyer to check it out ASAP and give me an answer. I always got an affirmative and I document it as a positive deal now closed to avoid a situation like this. I haven’t any problems, as yet. Sorry this happened to you.

Even though this is legal, it’s kind of fishy to wait 45 days to file a claim.

Its something better than nothing.

Not really. It cost $65 to obtain, on every bass you sell. Add in gas money and time spent. The arbitrator is not going to know anything about guitars and a note from a luthier is going to be no different than pictures taken before shipment to them. Oh, keep in mind that in MA you will receive a M-1099-K for the payment for your bass. Don't pay taxes on that. Refer to Frequently asked questions about Form M-1099-K notices from third party sellers and situation #2.

Yeah man he said everything was good once I knew he received the bass and he then let the payment go through.
