PayPal doesn't protect off-Ebay purchases

No, I haven't. Do you think that would cause the volume drop? It's a clean drop, as in no noise, it just drops volume entirely and comes back 5-10 seconds later. It did this every minute or so. I tried it on the tube channel and this mix and it happened on both. I should try the FET channel and see if it does it there, but the FET channel sounds lousy, so for practice purposes, I didn't switch over to that. Would a bad tube cause this issue on both channels?

I don't know the topography of that amp, it is just the simplest thing to try.

Could always try the FET only part and see if it happens, if it doesn't, I'd say that's could be an indicator of the tube needing replaced. But, as said, it's more because it's the easiest part to replace.

Have you tried it in different power sockets? I'm assuming you are using a cab (or cabs) that is within the impedance tolerances of the amplifier?

The power doesn't seem to be the issue. The amp is still ON, the compressor lights still light up when I hit a note hard enough for them to light up, and the power is still on. That's how I knew it wasn't the bass or cable (though I did try different ones just to be sure).

Yeah, the cab and head are both 4 ohms.

i'm sorry paypal broke your confidence. unfortunately for them (and you), looks like they've decided to save pennies that will cost them dollars.

hope you get your amp fixed cheaply.

Ebay even says all over their auction pages NOT to try doing transactions outside of the Ebay auction process because of the danger of scams. That ought to be a clue about what they'll protect and what they won't.

Anything over a hundred bucks or so, and I'd make the seller relist with a buy-it-now for the price/terms we'd agreed on.

Ebay is also a business that makes money from people selling things... on Ebay. Not off it. They're not in the business of being friendly and helping Mr. Wantsanitem and Mr. Hasanitem meet up.

It makes me smile because Paypal claims to offer protection and just takes your money. The whole point of this service is a secure money transaction online but they sort of fail to do that.

That being said I thought it was common knowledge that Paypal didn't care about anyone other than eBay customers since eBay owns Paypal.

I used to be best friends with a short and angry dude. That guy was always purposefully saying things to rile people up, even when he knew he was wrong, just to get a reaction. I think the proper term for people like that are 'trolls', be it online or in real life.
