PBJ Double Four - I was wrong.

A couple of years ago I bought one. Tried it. Was disappointed in the lack of bass and the boxy sound. For the price I expected better, fuller. I returned it.

Well, I just bought another one. Found a deal on a used one (thank you GC) and today's experience is different.

This thing sounds good. Dial in a little bit of bass, maybe cut the mids just a smidge if you wish and you get very good home practice tone. I'm currently listening to Pandora through it and it sounds fine. Yea, it's a bit chinky on the high end but it's a bass amp, not a full range PA system.

And talk about small & portable.

On Monday I'll have a chance to compare it with a Rumble 100 during a bass lesson. It will be interesting.

I love this amp. I use it as my in the living room practice amp, and I bring it to backyard and park jams, powered by a drill battery. It went 7 hours at an impressive volume last weekend. Kept up no problem with a drum set and two guitarists on Roland cubes.

Can see it here standing up with the Ryobi battery, and someone noodling on the Dingwall SP1 through it.

No kidding....... I musta got ripped off and got a bad one. Mine was "not good" in any regard (I'm being polite). I gave it to my nephew cause his mom didn't want him to have a loud amp.

I just bought my 3rd one. I get one, want something bigger and eventually sell it. But the one I just got is the new version with Bluetooth. I was going to originally use it to downsize and replace my B15R (see a pattern?) but now I think I'll use it as a Bluetooth speaker for practice.

I have the same model. I use Ryobi 18v drill batteries with a a clip on adapter and cable. Super easy.

Exact one I bought years ago isn’t available on Amazon anymore but sure you can find a replacement. $15 worth of parts and 3 minutes of time and you’re in business.

My biggest gripe with the PJB Double Four and the reason I sold mine after owning it for three years was the laptop style power supply that somehow defeated the idea of easy transportability around the house. I also never really liked the sound.

I am now very happy with the Markbass Micromark 801.

The newer ones come with inbuilt PSU, but I use my old model mostly running off battery, which enhances the idea of easy transport immensely, since you don't need an outlet at all.
