Pc recording.

Basically I'm after a free, downloadable software for PA which I can use as a bass pre-amp. Something to play through the PC with headphones it to play along with music, not fussed about using it for recording just something to act as a little amp in my PC to play through without any play lag. Play lag being where I hit the note and it takes 3 seconds to play it back.

Download a free recording program named Reaper (web search). Then, go to the web site for KVR Audio and download a free plug-in named Amplitube Free. You need both programs. The Amplitube is the bass amp simulator, plus pedal effects if you want. It runs inside of the Reaper recording program. The Reaper can be used to PLAY music files. You can skip the recording capabilities, if you want.

Not a PC based solution, but an iPhone/iPod/iPad can be used as you described.

OK, knowledgeable people. I have just bought PreSonus AudioBox USB interface and its Studio One DAW. My purpose is similar to the original poster's: I want to use songs from iTunes as a backing track while I practice the bass line. I do want to record so I can critique my technique and sound.

I tried to import a song from iTunes. They seem to be in .m4a format, whatever that means. But the Studio One software said it can't import that file format. Kind of kills the whole idea.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.
