What do I think about Meyer/Swift?

I think Edgar Meyer is an incredibly open minded musician. He seems to just love music, period.

He's the only player I have ever heard who is totally comfortable in such a wide range of styles. I've never heard him phone it in.

EM already does that Americana/Bluegrass/Folk stuff w/ Chris Thile, Yoyo, etc. It's not a stretch for him.

That Goat Rodeo record is some of the most gorgeous music I've heard in years. I'd love to do a project like that.

From my reading of the peacock/Costello story, I infer that peacock categorically dismissed Elvis as a "pop star" without actually listening to his music or realizing that he has a lot of vocal technique and musicianship. Usually it is safe bet to dismiss pop stars as jive ass, but not in Costello's case.
Oh well. It was peacock's loss.

Let's remember it was about sitting in on a Lee Konitz quartet gig, with I think Bill Frizzle and Matt Wilson or Paul Motian. In that context Costello is "just a pop star". Very few people can play jazz quartet music at that level and Costello, like most of us, isn't one of those people.
If I was in a position to pick between doing anyone's pop songs and playing any improvised music at that level I'd be go with Peacock's decision.
