PEAVEY 215BW BASS CABINET

Hello all!

I have recently bought a Peavey 215bw Bass Cab from a friend (who didn't take care of the cab). It's kinda beat up and I plan to make it a special proyect so I can restore it.

The only thing is that I cannot find any information or manual of sorts on this cabinet.

If any one can help me out I would really appreciate it.

I will constantly post pictures as I go with the proyect.

Well peavey came through and someone by the name of Aubrey sent me info about the cab and she said that the Peavey 215D BW did not come with a manual.

None the less she sent me a diagram of the different wiring methods for speakers in this cabinet.

So either way it was win-win :bassist:

The input jack that in this cabinet is modified I have seen in some pictures of this cab model and it was sold with only one input jack.

The serial number has been lost to time.

Also the speakers in it are not black widows, the top one is a Carvin speaker that reads 1556LR on a label and the bottom one I dont know.

Need to open it to check it out.

Well this is my cab and she will need a good fixing...I cant wait :D

The Peavey Black Widow 15's were good, solid 15's back in the day. Affordable and booty-kicking, if I recall correctly. Never had the snob-appeal of JBL or whathaveyou, but good speakers.

Does anyone have some suggestions on what speakers to install in this cab?

I was thinking Eminence, I heard one of the new Fender 2x15's and I liked the sound, so I did some research on the cab and they have cast frame Eminence speakers.

So any advice would be great :D

Look at the specs of the speakers you may be interested and see how much internal volume they need to reside in. Measure the internal volume of your cab and match 'em up! Eminence gets a lot of love around here.

+1 to upgrading the speakers,I have a set of Eminence Legends in mine and it sounds good as they were designed for small encolsures.
I have heard of a Eminence Neo that sounds really good in there as well but im not sure which model it is but you could find out by searching the Forum.
The BW speakers are okay but are not very musical in my opinion.

These cabs never came with black widows, they were a square magnet stamped frame driver with Peavey on them. I started a thread a while back about this cab:

On the other hand, I hope you didn't pay much for that cab! Man that thing has seen it all. Looks like it was up on jackstands at one point!

You can get one in near showroom shape for ~100-150, you'll have much more than that if you try to re-do it. Your money would be better spent trying to find a decent 215D BW enclosure. These have the ports (either rectangular or slot type) on the right hand side as you look at them. Your cab is the earlier model called "215 Enclosure." Some of them appear to have black widows but if you look at the aluminum dust cab, it has a dot in the middle, those are not BW, but a variant of the square magnet drivers...

Well the cab was pretty cheap, it cost me 1,500 pesos which comes to around 115 dollars.

(by the way I live in a town called Ensenada, Baja California in México just 45 min. south of San Diego, CA)

My friend sold it to me because he wasn't using it anymore, so I thought I could give it a good home and a well deserved fixing up.

Hrgiger I've seen those square speakers you mention a few times, I was always curious about them :D

Oh my god!! dude thank you so much I have been looking all over the internet for the side handles! :)

I had searched the Peavey site but found nothing, never thought of recessed handles :hmm: ....guess I should've looked around more 'till I found them
