Peavey 6505 for bass?

Hey guys I'm saving up to get myself a Peavey 6505 for guitar/baritone soon. Bass is, however, my primary instrument and I was wondering if I could use this beast for some bass tones, preferably some overdriven tones.

I have some questions:

1. I was thinking about buying the head first and then getting the cabinet on another date (I've got occasional access to a Marshall 1960 cab). I was wondering if it would do any harm to either the amp or the cab to run it through either/both of my GK cabs (either my 410SBX+ or 115SBX-II) for the time being?

2. Could this amp handle bass alone? Will there be any ill effects if I run a pretty low output (passive J and P bass) bass through this amp? I need to get my GK upgraded at some point in the near future, I was wondering if this amp could sub for the GK at practices until my bass rig was fixed (yes, I know it won't sound like my GK at all).

3. What are some ways to run both my GK and the Peavey rig at the same time? Do I have to get some sort of A/B/Y box or Y-splitter? Can I run one amp into the other?

Any other suggestions/warnings/experience on the topic would be appreciated.

You should check out the 6534 before you buy a 6505. ;);)

I wouldn't use a 65XX for bass as a stand-alone amp. It's safe, but it doesn't have enough clean headroom for bass.

If you want to run parallel rigs, you can use a Y-cable into the inputs, or your GK may have a pre EQ tuner output that you could plug into the input of the guitar head. An A/B switcher can also be a good choice so you can footswitch select the amps. Use a 412 guitar cab or bass cab with no tweeter with the guitar head. Tweeters sound terrible with distortion.

If you run two heads into a cab, you NEED a special A/B head switcher for it. The tube amp needs a load when it's turned on...you cannot keep it turned on without a cab or you'll ruin it. The head switcher creates a dummy load for the head that's not in use.

A radial headbone does this.
