There's a Peavey 115 BW on casters for sale near me ($180). Can't ID the ohms & need help. Posting front & back pics. Seller seems honest, doesn't have a ton of info & hasn't played it. Serial lookup is 1988 build. Would this be a reasonable purchase? Thank you.

Probably 8 ohms, of it's all original. They don't make the Black Widows anymore, though you can run across them on the used market.

I'd offer $125. It's a good cab, it's a Peavey! But my take on speakers is that newer technology is a pretty good way to go if you're going to be playing out a lot with it. I wouldn't want to see you stranded at a gig having finally spent an old, tired driver.
If it's for home use, for the caché/mojo for home use, etc, I'd still offer less for it, but that's me.

Appreciate the honest feedback about the cab.

When you say they don't make the Black Widow anymore, can a basket be obtained or what are the options if something is blown, etc?

You can find a used Black Widow, or with some minor port tuning maybe you could drop an old EVM15 or an Eminence Kappalite 3015 into it.

You can order one directly from Peavey. The tech that restored my combo amp got a new one and had it shipped directly from Meridian.

This is true, but be forewarned that you'll spend as much on the driver as you did on the cab. That said, I have a Peavey 115 (Scorpion) that I adore, so I'd probably make an offer.

Not sure if the BW cabs are different, but the Scorpion that came out of my 115 like that one was 4 ohm. Replaced it with an 8-ohm Celestion to use as an extension cab with my Max 250

Same. 1990 1x15, Scorpion Plus. 4 ohm. I thought the BW cabs were 4 ohm, too.

Just curious if anyone here knows the size of a truss rod wrench for a US made, 80s era Peavey bass?...

I find that most of my 80s/early 90s Peaveys work with Gibson truss rod wrenches. A couple had the nut too deep, so I had to clean out a little wood and glue globs near the nut to make it work, and a couple needed just a touch of filing of the wood on the side of the truss rod access cavity nearest the nut in order to have the wrench reach.

My friend has an old T-20, and he says his 5/16 thin-wall deep socket seemed a bit too large.

This one works on my '80 T-40, '84 Fury, and '92 Fury.

Black hardware means the cab is late 80's before Peavey put the BX cabs which were much deeper and heavier..most likely 4 ohms..i have one from the mid '80's and it 4 ohm

Not bass related but still Peavey amp related. When buying a 412 cab for my Marshall JCM900 MKIII I was so quick to the draw when I saw what I thought was a Peavey 412MS for under $170 that I did not notice GC mislabeled the cab and I was at work when GC closed the listing taking the pics with them. Come last Wednesday UPS delivers the enormous package and to my surprise I was sent a 90's 412M straight cab which is less common let alone for the price I got it at. This one is in a lot better shape than the 412M I had when I had that Peavey full stack and I want to say it ended up being cheaper as well so I made off pretty well.
