...whenever you are ready - pm/conversation(?) me. I have unfortunately learned that my newly christened "Twilight Zone" effect is currently unavailable. (!) The gold dust Pat used was 20 years old produced by a company no longer in business. I'm starting a search to locate any of it collecting 'dust' on a shelf somewhere - time to put my Columbo jacket on.

thanks man! The reassembling is by far the hardest part - at least in the electronics dept. I've spent many, many frustrating hours getting active preamp electronics to work as they did before disassembly. (and that's w/notes and pics) And this bass has the "mother of all preamps", so wish me luck!

Ha, good luck! I've only done passive electronics. Kinda like woodworking, but instead of "measure twice, cut once," it's "solder once, multimeter twice." :laugh:

After much deliberate avoidance of re-assembly, I finally got the nerve up to put the B-Quad back together. I was simply dreading the detailed, focused time-consuming ordeal which involved a tight control cavity jam-packed with wires and connections following scribbled diagrams and notes and referring to a few pictures. Hours of 'surgery' with a few hick-ups finally had everything working as it should! (amazing) There are a few details left to tie-up but it's playable and so here's a few shots.

I decided to replace the original pitted gold knobs which I attempted to save by repainting (the epoxy paint never really cured…) w/these J-style blk plastic knobs, including 2 stacked versions. I need one more, so for now a gold one is at the master volume pot.

Will also order some new tuning pegs as the sprayed gold pegs are also soft/gummy. :rollno: The original gold ones like the knobs are pitted and chipping, and these black generic ones I got to replace them were cheap crap from you know where. I'm done wasting money on junk regardless of how cheap it is.

I'll wait to install the new gold strings after the new tuners go on - update when that happens.

Have you ever entered 'guitar knobs' into an ebay search? 12,986 right now - gold guitar knobs' -> 1,403… blk guitar knobs -> 3,132 ~~~~~ To back up a bit, the original gold knobs are of more uncommon shaft size (bigger than standard shaft holes) and the stacked pots are equal to a Fender stack on the bottom, and very small holed at the top. I had to adapt the Fender matching knob on top by plugging the hole with a plastic sleeve. Sheesh!

screw it - I decided to put the original gold tuners back on (way better quality even if a little pitted) and strung it up w/the Optima 24k gold (plated/coated) strings. It looks awesome! The gestalt (other than some knob searching/adjusting) is complete!

On the right track w/bakelite knobs (instead of gold) but not this Fender/Ric style… or at least not totally. I had some bakelite skirted knobs that work well for the single pots. It's the stacked pots I need to coordinate. More after a trip to the hardware store.

It is a huge sound that comes out of this bass - both in tone and volume. The Optima strings feel and sound good too - very crisp and articulate sounding but still (with the tonal variety of this bass) produce fat dub-like lows. And like you say, the combination of the balanced ergo body and the really sweet fast neck makes for a great playing bass. FYI, this bass is for sale - I bought it expressly for re-defining it visually and re-selling. I'll be posting it on the tb classified soon.

Sorted! (also, a good pic showing the Fishman piezo saddles) I chose to relocate the tone and volume knobs so from top clockwise; stacked pu volumes, master volume, piezo volume, piezo tone, stacked mag pu tone controls. Stacked pots are bridge top, neck lower. The 2 way switch controls stereo on/off if used. It has 2 jacks for the stereo possibility, and either works as the standard input mono.
