Peavey Cabs - advice on better drivers?

A few Specs of Peavey's Sheffield 10" speakers:

# - 300 W Peak 150 W Program 75 W Continuous
# - Sensitivity: 89.1 dB 1 Watt / 1 meter
# - Usable frequency range: 60 Hz ~ 4 kHz
# - Voice coil diameter: 1.75"

There are lots of more efficient drivers out there.
Efficiency = louder?

Would it be a dumb idea to replace these Sheffields with more efficient replacements? Any suggestions? Save my money?

The "specs" listed in ads are the ones that don't matter. The 20 or so other specs most people have never seen or heard of are the ones that do matter.

Nowdays you can do a lot better than sheffields. Yes, higher spl means more loud coming out per watt going but that isn't a "one number tells the whole story" either. It's dependent on frequency and many other things and to get more of one thing, you always have to give up some of something else.

Take measurements of your box and folks can tell you what may work well or if you'd be better off to just sell it and get something else. Ideally, the box and driver are designed for each other and made to work well as a system. That said, with mass manufacture and trying to do everything as cheap as possible, most 410's are of similair size and there may indeed be some drivers that would work well as drop in replacements but we don't know yet.

These aren't specs, this is an advertisement. Specs tell the customer exactly what a product is. Advertisements have no purpose other than to separate one from their money, no matter how much or how little that may be, it's all more than zero.
 
So why is it when I put the TS parameters for the TF1020's into WinISD, and set the cab volume for 2.95 cuft (2 drivers) and the FS as 70hz, I get a nice flat response at about 0db from 65hz up, with a slight bump at 70hz? That would seem to be a very good response curve. Is there more to reading the WinIsd curve than looking for a flat curve? What should you look for when using it?

On the transfer function magnitude chart you want to see the lowest frequency at the -3dB line around 55Hz or lower. Of even more importance is the maximum power chart. A driver with too short an xmax will die rapidly below 100Hz, and since that's where most of your power demands lie that's not a good thing.

And of course for us Mac users, the online ISD version only has the transfer magnitude chart...bummer.
