what power tubes do these 400 peaveys have?Hey gents, just thought I'd stop in to my fav thread. I still love my CL400 to bits. I have tried it with an Eden d410t, Peavey Pro 410, and my sonic 410 and it sounds best through the sealed sonic 410. It's been solid since I did the big repair on it but maybe I'll re-bias the tubes just for fun sometime soon. Like a previous poster, the crunch chanel is a bit of a mystery to me. I can't seem to get a good tone as it goes from clean to distorted quickly. Oh well. It still thumps harder than any amp I've ever played.

They came stock with a Chinese 6550 that was closer to a KT88.what power tubes do these 400 peaveys have?
Wow thats the first time ive heard not loud and classic 400 in the same sentence.... the speaker jumping I can second I've only really been able to use it properly since i reduced its power to 200w.... at full power it really leaves 810s begging for mercy quite quickly and I needed a HPF and allot of care with bass and resonance settings to tame it....so much bass it's a bit ridiculous sometimes but fun....Had JJ KT88s in mine. For some reason it didn't seem all that loud to me, though the speakers in my SWR 8X8 were jumping like crazy. Could have been the cab, both it and the PV are long gone but it's cool to have owned one. Moved on to a different heavy, obscure tube amp.
Looks like the Classic 400 thread is well and truly dead. After years of not gigging the old Girl ( regularly use for practice) Tonight is the night with a 90s tribute night at a large venue ! Can’t wait to open her up ! There will be Thunder ……
Indeed one of the reasons I had mine castrated to 200w still thunderous but more manageable! I used to call it the fridge killer ! Even an 810 would struggle with it ! In that sense I think Ampeg got it right with 300wThey're still one of the most 100% awesome and unpractical amps ever. I only wish I could've opened mine up more during my brief ownership.
What's with the guitar stack halfway across the stage that's about to fall over?Unfortunately as having so much fun not to many photosthe reserve Elf reserve on top is rather hilarious

I can report no fallen stacks everything stayed on 4 castersWhat's with the guitar stack halfway across the stage that's about to fall over?
Indeed the ELF is funny but smart. Tube amps fail at the most inconvenient times.
