Peavey DDT technique

Most of Peavey's larger amps is equipped
with DDT.
After what i read this should be a huge advantage
because it allows the amp to be pushed harder than
a conventional amplifier with out producing distortion.

Since most tube amps i have tried usually sounds
as loud as a transistor amp of twice its size.
(because of softer clipping)
Will DDT gives you that same effect ?
Will, let's say a CS-400 give the illusion of being larger than it is ?

I had a Combo 300 with that feature. It did allow you to push the amp a bit harder before blowing the speaker, but I found it did have a negative effect on the sound. Sort of squished it a bit. I don't think it's going to make the amp sound much bigger. It didn't with mine.
