Peavey Foundation Bass

I have my vintage 1980's Ibanez for sale on CL. I was offered a trade. The guy is offering me a Peavey Foundations bass in trade for my Iby. ( My Iby was painted Green by a previous owner and active EMG p/j pups were installed.)i know nothing about peaveys. He said it has dual humbuckers which I like. But i have a few Peavey questions.
1. is the neck think or really thick?
2. Is the trade a good value? I can't seem to find a good proce base on the net.
3. how is the tone on a foundation? I read somewhere on the net that they lack lows and low end.

I am sorry for my absence on here . i have been busy with job hunting and have had some health issues.

1. Depends which model Foundation, but generally the necks are thin and narrow.

2. Very nice Foundations can frequently be had for under $200. What model is your Ibanez?

3. Foundations are often described as being Peavey's answer to the Fender Jazz. Many feel it sounds superior, which I can agree with. There's plenty of bottom end in a Foundation, and the overall tone is excellent.

i'm not sure what model it is, at the moment. i want to say its called a roadstar. But I could me mistaken. i am at work and i have the info on that at home. It does not have a serial number on it but from the catalog it appeared ii, its probably a 1987 model. Because its original color was orange and orange was made at that time.

It has a serial number. If the headstock/neck has been refinished, it's been painted over. You can't determine the model or year by the color. Post a photo.

No it does not. ibanez put stickers with the serial numbers on them back in the 80's or for this particular model, not sure which. The sticker has been removed. The neck was left untouched when it was re painted.

Put a BA Bridge on the Foundation and you can almost get Jeff Berlin's current tone.

I'd say get the Peavey, but you might be taking a little loss in $ value. Which bass is really better? I believe it's the Foundation.

The only thing the Peavey lacks in tone is any brittle highs whatsoever on the neck. It's not hard at all to blend this bass in with a band.

The foundation you have been offered sounds like a mid-nineties model, but it probably doesn't have double humbuckers. The later Foundations had VFL style covers on wide single coils. These pickups look like double Jazz pickups but are most definitely single coils. They sound like a more high-fi jazz pickup. The tone is typically referred to as a more modern tone, though I am not sure what that means. To me they are very clear with a decent amount of warmth. I think the tone is somewhere between Jazz and precision.

The build quality is very good, and the typically sell somewhere between $150 to $275 depending on condition. I currently have 4 of these versions of Foundations. The are my main players and work well in any mix.
