i have a 1987 foundation bass. Black headstock rozewood fretboard and black body (wich was stripped) it has the angled bridge and two superferrite pickups. It has the open chrome tuners. It came without knobs. One knob is black. But seems aftermarket. What knobs would have been original?

My 86 Foundation S came with black knobs that look very similar to Gibson Speed knobs except there is a ridged piece that runs around the knob. Since mine has the same bridge as yours I would bet the knobs would be the same.

I've got a few foundations love everything about them, only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the bar type string tree on the later models. I think over all my preference leans towards the earliest years. Top to bottom Clockwise newer Black Fretless1013XXXX; 1986 Black with Black headstock 252xxxx; 1986 White/White Headstock 220xxxx; 1999 Neck on a 1997 Body 937xxxx; 1987 metallic red 249xxxx; 2001? USA Cirrus Peacock Blue 1124xxxx; 1984 Met red 177xxxx. Sold a Lipstick red recently, would have been the second gen 1999. Looking for a "Salmon" for sale in the local area. Just to drive people nuts. Might try a "skin your skunk" on one of the rougher foundations one day.

I bought my 1992 Foundation with the SF pickups last July in the classic black & Maple combination & I absolutely love it. So much so that my 2014 Am.Std Precision has been left in it's case since July and the foundation is all I want to play now. Now I'm on the lookout for an earlier version again in the same black & maple.

Well its not in the classic black & maple I was looking for "BUT" it is a 1986 Peavey Foundation in black & rosewood with matching headstock, which I got yesterday 21/02/18 and also posted on the U.S. Peavey Club. Keeping the Database going with Foundation goodness.

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but I scored an excellent ‘92 Foundation yesterday, and spent most of the night last night restoring it to its former glory. One thing I couldn’t get right was the pickup height, can someone explain how the super ferrite height is adjusted? It seems clockwise turns of the Phillips head screw raises that side, so counterclockwise would lower it, but that’s not working. Looking in the database for ideas. Thanks!

Hope you get your Foundation sorted out soon I recently sold my '92, as the '86 was getting all the playing time. Nice to see this thread still has some life left in it .

My 86 Foundation S sees regular gig time with my classic rock band, so thats twice a month. Love it just as much as when I bought it new in 86.

So I opened it up and figured out what’s wrong, but I’m not sure how to solve it.

The pickup wire under the pickup is preventing it from going any lower. Part of it is coming out into the pickup cavity directly under the treble side height adjustment screw. I tried to relocate it, but it’s a very thick wire.

Any thoughts? If not I’ll head over to Pickups/Electronics. Thanks!

TB newbie here - thought I'd 'report in' on this thread...

I've still got my 1994 "HandCrafted in the USA" Peavey Foundation, Black/Maple, 4 string fretless bass that I bought new in summer 1994. Serial #06878123, with its original Peavey SKB hardcase. It set me back a cool $402.90 from Sound Chek in Metairie, LA. I still have all the original 'documentation' it came with as well.

Still love and baby it, and enjoy its great sound and feel. After all these years, I'm still just a hobbyist havin' fun tho' - but thought I'd share.

Just wanted to share my peavey foundation bass guitar. I have a 1986 peavey foundation bass guitar that I had to refurbish ( poplar body, maple neck and fretboard ). I got it brand new when I was in high school. The pick-ups ( super ferrites ) were also not working as I tested. I stripped everything and stained the body with varathane walnut and finished with watco wipe on poly. I also stripped the neck, leveled the frets and stained with varathane mahogany with watco wipe on poly finish. The back of the neck I sanded down the finish to 2000 grit to make it play faster. I also changed the pups to seymour duncans basslines phase 2 ssb-4 with an active onboard preamp {stc-3p}. I also upgraded the bridge to Hipshot kickass bridge. I haven't played in a while so sorry for mistakes. I was going for a "old distressed" look. Whatever that means. I placed a link for the sound it has now.
