That forum is pretty horrible in terms of it's navigability. The entire Peavey website could use an overhaul. It's slow and clunky and parts of it are often down completely.

Oddly, I came across a Patriot with a ser# lower than my oldest Foundation. I know the Patriots were introduced well after the Foundation (86-87?).

Again, if memory serves, they were available the same time that I got my Fury (85).

Another tidbit for the Foundation data base...

The control cavities were shielded with this foil. It's held in place with staples around the sides.

Somewhat crude and could easily be mistaken for a homemade job, but was actually done at the factory.

The little caps are (I think) for what Peavey called "tone compensation".

Interestingly, a while back I emailed Peavey for an '84 Foundation wiring schematic. The one they sent did not provide for the 3 extra caps.

Evidently they did'nt archive the original wiring plan showing the 3 little cap values. No matter, the SF's still sound great sans caps.

OK our databass grows:Some 5 screw backplates were shielded, 4 screw backplates were not. One of my 5 holes (02...) is shielded, my next chronologically ( 04...) has a piece of foil tape and might have been at one time) both my 4 screws were not shielded. My 5 screws have the extra capacitors, 4 screws dont have 'em.
My shielded one suffers from no signal if one of the controls is at zero, even the tone control can kill all the volume.

Ive been into my four string; its 4 screws and no foil. My 5er also is 4 screws and though I haven't been into that one I would assume there is no foil.

I have to edit on m earlier post about headstock markings. The back of my 4 says:

U.S. Patent No. XXXXXXX Handcrafted in the U.S.A. (as I stated)

But my 5er only had the 'U.S. Patent No.XXXXX'

After I made the post I started looking around on it cause I thought it was odd that it didn't have the 'handcrafted in the usa' statement. I found it under the 'Foundation' in small print on the front of the headstock but it says:

'crafted in the u.s.a.'

I should add that my info is only related to earlier Foundations with SF's, up to about 1987 or so. No clue about the more recent editions.

A new distinction for Foundations. Yep, we'll get to talk our own lingo soon just like the Fender boys. Pinstripe headstock. Theres a beautiful blue, maple neck 4xxxxxxx series on ebay right now. But I got to thinking about the neck differences between pinstripe and non pinstripe necks. The pinstripes are a little chunkier front to back while still being comfortable jazzlike spacing. Non pinstripes are slimmer. Anyone else with other experiences with 'em, speak up now: thats what this is for.
Also, anyone seen a rosewood pinstripe neck, other than on a Foundation S?

I'm not sure what you mean by pinstripe. Do you mean the outline around the perimeter of the headstock face? If so, I have two rosewood board Foundations with it. One with the natural maple finish and one with the headstock face matching the body (Sunfire Red). The ones with the color-matched headstocks were called "Foundation Custom" in Peavey literaure.

Can someone tell me the bridge spacing of the earlier foundations. I have a 79 T-40 and find it a little tight for me. Would love to get an old USA Peavey with 19mm spacing but have no idea if something like that was made.

Dating your Foundation?

Has anyone found a date stamped or written anywhere on their Foundation?

I've looked inside every nook....nada. If they're unmarked (as mine are), that leaves us with serial numbers and features, right?

I suspect the serial #'s on these badboys may be kinda unreliable.

If you supply the serial number to the techs o the Peavy.com forum, they can tell you the manufacture date.

Peavey currently has the forum site shut down and are in the process of rebuilding their forum application.
