I'm new at this so forgive me if the picture is not there, but I won the auction on that Black and Maple Foundation project. It turned out the truss rod had never been adjusted, and the wires were twisted on to the output jack. The football patch had been lost and someone replaced it with a jack plate made from the bottom of a beer can (Gig repair?) Anyway, adjusted the neck, set the intonation, rewired the jack and changed the cap. Played it at practice Sunday night. Worked great, and very punchy. Not bad for a $90 investment

I can't recall one of my ebay foundations not needing tweaking. Having their truss rod nut freeze up is common as is the inability to adjust the neck because not enough wood was routed out at the end to adjust the truss rod. Once tweaked, they pretty much stay there.

Why is it everyone elses Foundations sound punchy but not mine? Then again my Foundation4 has the deadest strings in the world on it when I got it... the E-string was RUSTING!! I would imagine its the strings that didn't make it sound punchy. Mine sounded laid back, mellow and deep but not punchy. My 5er just sounds .. like a bass... can't explain it, its just a 'bass' sound. LOL I would guess strings and better set ups will take care of my 'mellow' foundations.

And that is amazing bassmanrocke! Hard to believe its the same bass that looked so sad in the auction pics. ^_^ Good deal!! Nice to see this Foundation getting some love after its previous [possible] neglect and abuse.

Amazing, aint it? My latest snag, a fretless, was like that. No way my wrench could grab the nut.

I had to carve out quite a bit of wood to get at it (exacto knife). I found that the rod was totally slack. But then it torqued up nicely, straightening out the scary looking "ski jump" the neck had acquired.

Conclusion: The neck on this bass had not been tweeked at the factory, nor at any time since it was born in 1987!

I like rotosounds ^_^ Though with *counts on fingers* ..uh..a bunch of basses to feed strings to thats pretty pricey. I ran across a case of fender roundwounds -- 6 sets for an unbelievable price a couple months back and snagged them instead. Its not enough to go around but its a start. The T40 doesnt need strings now since it got the Dynas nearly new Peavey roundwounds (great string too IMO) and the Bat has the rotosounds I put on it like may of 07 and the Cowpoke seems to have a decent set on it but everyone else needs string. :p

Keep string suggestions coming!!! I am just now learning about all the different strings and stuff...sheesh....when I say I was totally closed off to the bass community when I played the first time I was not kidding!!!

I like a crisp, twangy, yet deep sounding string. Did that make any sense? :p

XLs. Twangy but full and wont break the bank like some other roundwounds. I like the nickel ones.

I think knifemaker as ernie ball hybrid slinkies on his T40 and says they rock!! I am not sure I will try D'aDario again. That was the brand I got for my foundation5 and the D string snapped while I was tuning it. It was the shortest string and had the longest way to go. I swear it was nothing I did! The string wasn't twisted, strung wrong into the tuner, nothing.... so now it sits with 4 strings (haven't the motivation to replace that tone string at Juststrings yet because I really dont know if I want to replace that string or take them off and go with a new set from some other company..needless to say I was not that impressed with my first try with them)

I'm sitting here with my lefty Foundation I got new in '87. Black body with matching headstock, thin silver pinstripe and lettering. " Handcrafted in the USA by..." Rosewood neck. Rubber band knobs replaced long ago with Gibson speed knobs. GHS Boomers the whole time, everything from praise and worship to metal. One of the best recording basses ever- DI and an SVT mix, yum.

Ok I haven't quite figured it all out, I didn't mean for the pictures I had already posted to be there, but I'll eventually get it. I have also put some discriptions for the first 4 pictures if you'd like to click on them. All three basses have excellent action, and have quickly jmped in front of my Fenders as go to basses. I actually think the '94 with the new style pickups might be the smoothest sounding of the bunch.
