Yea, one adjustment on the headstock. It's V/V/T on the pots.

Did you do the quick neck relief check ?

There is a micro-tilt at the neck joint to adjust neck angle. The only truss rod adjustment is at the headstock. Get some contact cleaner,remove the knobs, and spray the pots from above. This may help with the noisy/inactive pots. Also, if the neck pickup isn't working at all, I would check for a loose connection. The peavey pots are pretty high quality and not prone to complete failure.

No, not like you suggested I didn't have time, so I just took the gamble once I saw the Ferrites. . I could see by eye that it was bowed more than that, but I did bend it by hand and it gave a fair amount so I am hoping it can be adjusted into tolerance. Thanks for all the help everyone. This really is my project bass to learn on as far as setup and repair etc so you are helping a lot. Thanks to all. More later.........

Excellent choice, man! I also bought my 1986 Peavey Foundation in a pawn shop many years ago and I still have it. It was my second bass and is still comfortable enough for me to gig with every so often. It's been with me through three bands, now. Seriously underrated basses.

Ok, I started messing with it tonight. I hadn't even touched it since I bought it so I picked it up tonight and some moron had it tuned to EADGB! In other words the B string was at E and every other string tuned a perfect 5th up from that! Now that put some tension on the neck! As soon as I tuned it things improved, but still had a bit too much relief so I tightened it 1/8 and can already tell it's gonna be a player! Stoked!

Noise coming from the tone pot. I tried cleaner to no avail. At times I can get it to shut up by messing with it, but no pattern to what causes it has evolved. When I touch any metal part of the bass except the pot knobs themselves the frequency of the buzz changes. There is a black wire on the tone pot that goes to nothing. Just hanging in the cavity. Is that normal?

Does anyone have pics of the pot cavity and pickup cavities too? Off to a good start I hope. This thing I think plays so well it will be worth taking to the luthier for the electronics if I have too, but I will try it myself first. Thanks for all your help all.

Here are a couple pics of the pot cavity. You can see the wire in question on the right. I don't see anywhere where it looks like it was connected or bare wire where it was stripped to connect. There is a black wire going from the pot into the body that is separate from this one. The one that is dangling is soldered to the same point where the resistor looking thingy is. is. Sorry, working on the pic quality. The brightest one shows best. Thanks again.

EADGB tuning is pretty common, nothing moronic about it. :) If you only needed to do a 1/8 turn to get it set up, that's great. Sounds like you have a neck that's in good shape. :)

The pictures are out of focus enough that I can't really tell what's going on with the ground wire you are speaking of. Is there any way you could get a clearer image?

Green thing is a capacitor. Black wire should be terminated. Look at your solder blobs and see if one of them has a little bit of wire sticking out - that will help locate where the break took place.

If I am looking at the last pic you posted correctly and XAX pdf file correctly. That loose black wire should go to a prong on the middle volume pot...


But then inspecting your photo closer, looks like there is a second black wire soldered to that far right tone pot and it heads to the volume pot, but loops back to itself? The black wire I am referring to is the one that runs just above the green cap.... The Schem pdf only shows one wire attached to the back and a cap....

XAX; that seymouduncan link looks like how it is. The S1 Mod looks way cool, but not today. Thanks. More testing. Will let you all know. I am not very good at electronics so it may be to the Luthier soon. Will see.

If I hold that wire solidly to the output jack it cancels the hum so I am off for a soldering iron. Still have no volume or reaction from the neck pickup. All other connections are good. I have rarely had a small crackle come out of that pot but that is it. Ideas?
