Peavey Foundation score...

Just scored a nice early Foundation with super ferrite p'ups. Neck is dead straight..electronics are flawless. Was lookin'to get a Fender Jazz in the stable..but I think this will fit the bill..

I do need to get some knobs for it. Pots are stock split shaft. What are you guys using for replacement knobs?

There's nothing wrong with the 2 I have..just missing one. Maybe I should ask where I can pick up a Peavey knob and keep the 2 I have.

Also, the 2 on there are a tad loose and seem to come off rather easily. Any remedies?

It actually sounds..to my ear anyway..far better than any Jazz I've played. Blows away the MIM Jazzes. About the only I've played that came close to this is a '97 Swamp ash/maple board with custom shop '60`s p'ups in it.

This one is VERY nice.

Not that it needs by a long stretch..but what size is the truss rod nut? Any specific tools out there for this?

Oh, my mistake, I didn't notice the missing knob.

I would think those knobs should be fairly easy to find either on allparts or Ebay.

Um... yeah... Foundation "Super-Ferrite" single coils are pretty fantastic pickups. My Dyna-Bass had 'em and it sounded like a Jazz Bass on Steriods. Those Foundations have KILLER tone.

Yes, go there. For the record, though, my wrench measures out at 8mm.

I just bought a natural body Peavey like yours for $60. It's my hang-out-near-the-computer bass, and yes, it sounds wonderful. :D

Yes. Take a flat-blade screwdriver and GENTLY push it into the slot between the two halves of the shaft, pushing them apart a bit. Shouldn't take much at all.

Seriously, the original Super Ferrite Foundation is one of my all time favorite basses. I agree (that to my ears) it sounded better than any of the Jazz Basses I had played-okay not as many as a lot of you, lol!
I had to sell one bass several years ago to get my Cirrus...I wanted to sell my graphite finish Dyna rather than my natural/rosewood Foundation. I tried to discourage my buddy from choosing the Foundation because I priced it the same as my Dyna at $300. Didn't work for a second...sigh. Still have, and love, that Dyna...but I really miss my old Foundation. Fortunately, I still get to play it over at his place.

As far as knobs...just about anything for a 1/4 inch shaft will fit. And get the Peavey truss rod wrench-$8 sounds about right (they used to be $5). While it's made of thin stamped steel, the wrench is designed to intentionally deform (or strip) before the truss rod can be tightened to the point of stripping or breaking...having broken a truss rod on my Precision this is a worthwhile safety feature, IMHO...
