Peavey Foundation V - Any Good?

PULL THE TRIGGER !!!
One of the BEST, unsung heroes of passive basses. They sound so warm, punchy, and round. Dead silent passive single coil pickups in a VFL case. Perfect in the mix. You will love it and I'm sure it's affordable.

Well I got hold of the bass Saturday and I have to say, it's not bad at all. The neck and string spacing are the two things that really stand out for me. It's the narrowest spacing on a 5-string I've ever had and I quite like it. I had something similar to the spacing on an old Warwick Corvette Rockbass but even that wasn't as narrow as the Foundation. Also the neck is very slim for a 5 string (probably the slimmest ever?). I think what Peavey have done is try to shoe-horn five strings onto a four string pickup as a cost-cutting exercise. I quite like it so no complaints there.
I think the quality of the build is as good as any modern Korean or Chinese build as "made in the USA" doesn't really stand for "quality build" any more, what with the advent of CNC machines and the sound of the instrument coming from the electronics and strings and nothing else.
The pickups are quite hot for passives and they don't have any hum or nastiness coming from them.

All in all I'm quite pleased with the bass. I've got a rehearsal in two weeks so I'll see what it sounds like in a band situation and report back.
