Peavey Foundation vs. Classic Vibe?

I love my Foundation 2000, I overpaid for it. I don't care. I'm interested in it's use as a musical tool and not it's value if I want to sell it. I didn't get a great price but I got a great value.

One more vote for the Peavey :)

The point was fair comparison --- I'd it's axcellerator - few know what they are

Nothing wrong with it - the pricing value should be addressed

The op was askin value compared to import fender

The Peavey sounds like a good deal although myself I prefer the Fender/Squier family of basses. I've played a few Peavey's while shopping around and I didn't notice anything special about them. They seemed to be built for their price range like all the rest. I've never owned one, though so take that with a grain of salt. However being MIA for that price would be enough for me for a new bass, but isn't build origin kind of irrelevant for a used bass? I would say get the foundation because if you don't like it you can sell it fairly quickly in the talkbass classifieds.

Peavey's weren't built for a price range. They were built at the same level of quality (often better) as Fender and Gibson products, and offered at a lower price point. As far as quality of construction goes, Peavey guitars were better built than most Fenders and EVERYTHING Gibson put out in the late 70's through the 1990's.

They were specifically sold to a price point - all of the marketing materials blatantly spelled it out

That's what I said. They were SOLD at a price point, but not BUILT down to that point. To wit - the Peavey Foundation wasn't built cheap to sell cheap, like Danelectros. It was built as a professional level quality instrument but marketed/sold as affordable.

Can you post cases of Foundations selling for $450? I check TB and EBay all the time and I see people asking big bucks but I don't see anyone paying up.

My experience says Foundations and Furies run from $150-$275, with an average around $200.

Only a handful of Peavey bass models sell for over $400. The vast majority go for well under that. The over $400 basses are the Cirrus, BQuad, Sarzo signature, TL-6, Cyberbass, G-5. Any of those that can be found for $400 is a steal.

The TL-5 and US Millenium are selling right at or under $400. The rest are all sub-$300 basses.

Definitely older peavey over CV Squier (though I do like the Squier look and sound). I've owned a Foundation, and it felt and played really well. Though some may disagree, the tone -for me- wasn't comparable to even a Squier. Like I said, build quality and playability were really great, just the tone left me wanting a little more. They go for anywhere from $100 (a great buy) to $250 (for the less common finishes) in our area (including a case many times).

I've also owned a T-40, and it also had the great build and playability...but also had some tone to boot. Those are definitely appreciating as even a ratty one will go for $350 on local Craigslist.

I see a fair number of TL-5s between $400-$600. I believe US Millenniums are going up in price too. Remember, the Millenniums were made for only a few years at the end of Peaveys emphasis on USA instrument manufacture.

This guy really needs a reality check! It's in darn nice shape and looks to be from their custom shop (matching headstock); if he wasn't so far gone on price, I would've been interested.

EDIT: Is it just me, or is a machine head missing?

I've had about 20 sent to me for setup over the past two months..... I'm now getting calls from collector stores and bass boutiques

Strange is they're not looking for quads or cirrus
