so ... did you buy a modulus?

LOL! I ended up with my b quad 4 (still) with OBP3 I changed and added a Hipshot bridge and tuners
for a bit had a b quad 5 neck on a grind 5 USA body but sold it couldn’t get the action where I wanted- wasn’t happy with the way it turned out

almost bought a fire red modulus from a friend that had been extremely modified! But ended up buying his dingwall combustion 5

Well @tindrum , you know I'd be all over this part of the discussion. Back in 2010, I paid about $450 for my G bass, here on TB. It arrived with very minor damage. The seller was very cool and paid for the repair. It was a fine bass, but I suppose it felt somewhat cursed. After not playing it much, I sold it to a buddy. ... Recently, that same buddy got married and sold it back to me, for the same $400 I'd sold it to him for. Woo!

It was then that I noticed, "Hey, that pickup is VERY close to the Aria SB 1000 placement! I must throw on some Rotosounds and see what it sounds like!" Unfortunately, the batteries were left in the bass all this time and they leaked! The fix is simple - I simply have to replace the 9V battery connectors. Once I do that, I will get this beast in order and post my findings. SPOILER ALERT: I do remember that pickup sounding very much like my Cirrus, as someone else kinda mentioned in his thread. However, I think pickup placement is a huge factor, so let's see what happens.

You need to put a new 9V snap cap connector on, throw the current one out. It's likely that the acid ate through wires inside the cap itself, and if you just clean this one up and reconnect it, it will likely fail on you soon. I've been down this road before, unfortunately.

10-4 on that. I have two brand new connectors, ready to splice in.

Looking forward to your findings. I didn’t find a strong similarity but who knows. It was years ago and several amps ago. For your sake I hope I’m wrong!

The G Bass was around $800-$900 new.

Peavey's initial ad campaign pushed 'new' tech and VFM, they wanted a bass under $700 so the MSRP was $699.99 on release

Great basses though I never bonded with the GV. I have been rocking the G-bass for years. They record really well. The graphite neck really helps keep the tone even up and down the neck and across the strings. As a consequence they play really well with a wide variety of effects if that is something you are into.

Update: bought the bass and went against my normal mode of operation. I paid his asking price. He drove nearly the entire way to meet up. Bass is near mint and came with the Peavey hard case. I never pay asking price. But seeing these posted used for $500-600 up to neatly $800… I figured the delivery was worth the extra. Saved me an 8 hour round trip.

About the Carbon Fiber Lie - This is My Fault
Arrgh... I'm the idiot that initially made this comment that's been taken out of context. I swear... it will be cast in stone somewhere some day.

The "poor man's modulus" was a kid asking me to compare my Gbass to my Modulus Flea. I told him the vibe was similar. I termed it "poor man's modulus." I started this silliness that can not be erased from the internet.

The person had a music crush on the chili peppers (when flea had a modulus endorsement). The high school kid wanted a vibe bass that he could afford (back when we could buy them for a $150.

I own a BQuad, Modulus, Composite Acoustics, Bogart and Emerald Flow. Those are carbon fiber - not dressed up to look like carbon

Neck Rigidity
I've owned a few G and GV. The carbon wrap isn't what it was envisioned. I've had the necks unstable. I do not keep instruments that ever need any tweeks of any kind. I do not currently own a G - I do own a BQuad.

OPINION - The USA multi laminate with carbon fiber rods are more stable.

Vibe
Overall, I'd say they're in the vibe of a bolt on neck cirrus for feel and theme.

They sound more like a pbass than some of the more articulate active peaveys. I probably have a deck recordings somewhere of one.
