Peavey Grind BASS pickguard

I am new to bass i am sorry everyone!!!!!
Perhaps someone might want to tell him that that particular fine instrument doesn't come with a pickguard.

I'm sorry, but I feel that was extremely rude.
There is in fact, no pickguard in that picture. Even if there was, there would be numerous more tactful ways to say it.

The black thing is of course the pickup itself, well, at least the pickup cover.
Here is another example of a pickguard:

It's the tortoise colored plate that reaches from the end of the neck and over the first pickup.
To answer your question though, if you want to have the bass without the black covers so you can have exposed pole pieces showing on the pickups like on the picture here above (the silver thingies).
That depends on the pickup itself, in most cases the cover is glued/epoxied to the pickup casing so it's not possible to take it off without damaging the pickup.
