Peavey Import Club (BXP Line and others)

I recently got a Peavey International Series Fury II made in Korea. I'm having a hard time finding out any information about it. Web searches, including the Peavey website turn up scant literature.

The bass is a four-string with a single soapbar pickup and active electronics. It's also got a sunburst finish, which has never been a real favorite of mine, but is actually growing on me.

Pics to follow.

Can I get a number?

OK, I'll bring the list forward and add myself to the end.

Here are a few pics. I'm not sure that I would have chosen to do a transparent finish on a multi-piece body, but this one is not as bad as some I've seen. Does anyone have a similar unit?

Comments welcome.

I think I qualify to enter the club, specially today.

I own a BXP5, I mentioned something about it here

Since then I unexpectedly bought a USA CS Fretless Cirrus-5. Thanks to TB forum!

Now I think I am entitled to say a good old Indonesian BXP is very close to a good USA Cirrus, that is well above other basses costing a lot more.

Today I've just bought another Indonesian Cirrus BXP, this time a 4-string. I love playing fretless so much now that I want frets just for slap, and the 19mm string spacing in the BXP4 seems to be ideal (haven't tried yet, it's in my car trunk!). My 5-string Cirrus have tight spacing that is ideal for fingerstyle or pick, but not so good for slap (I am not a good slapper anyway).

Neck seems to be as good as my BXP5.

Micro-review:
I like ultra-low action and Cirrus necks allows it. I think it has to do with precise curvature of the neck once the trussrod is adjusted and the very good fret work.

But now I remembered in my BXP5 I wanted to lower the 1st and 2nd strings more than what the bridge allowed. I solved it by filing the bottom side of the small piece in the saddles by 1mm or so.

In the recently purchased BXP4 action was OK. I mean "regular", so "not ultralow". And the neck was again perfect to tolerate very low action. This time I am filing a lot more than 1mm, maybe 2 or 3 mm. I also had to cut some notch in the moving part where the saddle fits (don't know the technical name of it) to get some clearance for the strings, specially for the first. Now it is perfect for my style. It took a couple of hours with manual tools (files and sandpaper, not even a lathe).

Trussrod was perfectly adjusted in both cases. Normal bow (not backbow) of about 0.15mm, by no means this is excessive bow (it could be the opposite if anything).

I think it could be useful to mention, in my opinion my 2 BXP from Indonesia were good out of the box for most, but they were not set to their full potential due to limitations in how low the action can be. I tend to think my 2 BXPs are no exception.

This is my new (used) Cirrus. After having my Patriot for a few months, and being amazed at the sounds it makes, I didn't hesitate for one second on this one. I almost returned it the next day after changing the strings and putting in some 9volts because I feared I would stop playing the rest of my basses. Hasn't happened, but I play this more than the rest now.

OK I added myself to the list. I have never played anything and at 59 decided to do something I always wanted to do and purchased a Millennium 5 AC BXP. I am into my 3rd book and learning to play. I am one of those people that want to know all there is to know about what I am doing so this forum has been awesome. Has anyone actually installed the US version of the Millennium 5AC preamp into the Import BXP? there was a lot of talk about it in the first few pages but no one ever said they actually did it and what the results were. I do feel the mid tone control on the Millennium 5AC BXP is not very effective and the b string is not very clear and just kind of sounds muddy.

OK, I'll bring the list forward and add myself to the end.

Adding myself to the list now. I picked up a Grind BXP 5 string today. Haven't had a chance to play it much or take pictures, but from the time I played it in the store....plays and sounds great.

Well, I might be # 74 in a few weeks, or less. I just laid away an older Milestone (1, I think, no # following.) It's the P style, red with a couple of minor dings. Ser # 00592430. Most likely part of a combo set. Pics to come when I get it. Price was $100 CDN. Plays well, no buzzes or dead spots, but needs a proper setup and dust off. Looks like it was setup for slapping, as the action is high. Intonation sounds almost dead on. Neck looks fine with little relief. Also, the pups are set with a midrange tilt, also suggesting slapping use to me. I'll reset it for my preferences and see how that works out. Volume pot is scratchy, but that's an easy fix. Tone has little effect, but when I clean the v pot, I'll inspect the cap value.
This will be my first bass in almost 5 years, except the Bronco, which was borrowed. Will be nice to have a full size instrument to play around with. :D

On a side note, I did get the chance to play a Grind 5 the other day. Wish I could afford it. :(

Whoah! What the...

I have never seen a Grind BXP like this. At first I thought it was a B-90 with a Grind neck, but then - where did the dot inlays come from? And the bolts!?

I've seen Grinds like that before, made in early 2000's. Basically a predecessor to the Millenium bass now offered. The seller is really high in what he wants for this bass, it's nothing special IMO. A guy had one of those for sale locally for around $250, for months. I've seen them languish on ebay for that price also, although not lately...
