Peavey Mark IV head and 1820 cab question

I'm wondering if this rig is worth trading for. I'm a converted guitar player and already have a decent rig that I play out with. I posted my guitar head and cab on CL looking for trades. I value my gear at about $500. I got an offer for straight across trade. I've read some reviews and searched for posts and the Peavey Mark IV head sounds like it might be worth while. My curent setup is an old Yorkville BM400H head with an Avatar 410 NEO cab. I play a 5 string active and a 4 string passive Precision. I play mostly classic and southern rock. Do you think the Peavey will sound better than my Yorkville?

So my question is, what do you think is the value of the Peavey head and cab? And is it worth the 2 hour drive to go check it out?

I like the Mark IV but I doubt it put out as much power as your Yorkville. The 1820 is huge. It has a single 18 and 2 10's and is built like a tank. I think it would sound fine for southern/classic rock, but you will need a truck and a friend to move it from gig to gig. I think I would stick with the rig you have, or look for something else. I also think market value on the Peavey rig is probably closer to $400 than $500.

Just some more info for you on the Mark IV head

With a 4Ohm cab you are looking at 210 watts, 320 into 2Ohms. I dont know what the Yorkville is rated at for different impedances. That being said, that head through a 410 would be killer.

I have a Peavey 1810 and it's one 18" Black Widow and two 10" Scorpion speakers,

I thought the 1820 was the cab with TWO 18" and two 10" speakers???
Taller than the Ampeg fridge 8X10 as I remember.

Probably just as, if not more heavy, than the Ampeg 8X10.
The Ampeg sounds better though..

The 1820 is a great sounding, but terribly heavy cabinet. However, they can be found used between $150 and $250. The mark IV, (if its the mark IV with the graphic eq, they made different versions of the mark IV, centurian etc), can be found used in the neighborhood of $150. So I really would not be willing to pay more than $400 for the pair, and depending upon condition, might not be willing to pay more than $250.00 for it. This statement is coming from a huge peavey fan, so I'm not knocking the equipment, just stating that in todays economy, used Peavey stuff is not bringing the huge dollars.
Bottom Line: Great rig, but don't pay too much for it.
