Noisy fan for sure...sounds like a Hoover vacuum! I bought a new Mini-Mega, and the fan on it is almost as loud...when I first heard the Mini-Mega fan I thought "Ahhh! There it is!"..I am right at home.

Noisy fan for sure...sounds like a Hoover vacuum! I bought a new Mini-Mega, and the fan on it is almost as loud...when I first heard the Mini-Mega fan I thought "Ahhh! There it is!"..I am right at home.
I picked it up for $60. I say you got a hell of steal. Thanks for the kind words Ed, it has taken me a long time to get where I'm at today and I couldn't have done it without the support of some awesome folks here on TB.

Ok So I got a huge box from Meridian: my Megabass is back!! All said and done, <$150 including 2-way shipping. So not too bad! Man, they’ve even replaced the 1/4 jacks! I didn’t know they came in “bling” color! Will test the unit thoroughly tonight. Even the eq fader knobs we’re replaced. I have high hopes!
Yeah.... but.... the bi-amp/full range switch STILL doesn’t work. Only at full volume in full range do I hear a little distorted high sound. Aaargh. Sent a message to Peavey already. Will report back. (Btw it works perfectly in Bi-amp mode, and it still sounds awesome!)
Are you sure your not applying too much input gain(PreAmp) ? Try cranking your High & Low outputs before bringing up the PreAmp input gain. Have you tried to go directly into the Power Amp input, bypassing the PreAmp/Eq section altogether ? It would help you to determine which section is causing the distortion.
Hope that makes sense, just a thought, just trying to be helpful.

I've honestly thought about having mine sent back for cleaning and having it checked, but if they aren't going to fix an issue like that, um, I'd be a little leery.
Hopefully they will resolve this. I can't imaging them letting it leave the shop if it's having issues like that.

It seems to me that the input gain(PreAmp) gain structure is very sensitive, almost seemingly over kill. I've always assumed it was made that way to be able to use low level Piezo pickup signals. I can't recall ever needing to turn the Pre-Input gain past 2 (9 o'clock) for any instrument or pedal. Anything beyond that seems to generate distortion.
I will have to dig mine out in the near future and see where the preamp volume is set. I know I never the knob past noon on any of my preamps, so I'm guessing it's in at ballpark
Thanks for all the help! This is not a volume setting. The preamp gain never makes it past 3 in my basement! I followed up EdBo’s plan (sort of) and ran signal to the input at the front and used the preamp out at the back to a second (CS800) amp. This is full range output , with the volume knob at the front. The signal went through flawlessly, even through the pot. So... I opened up the unit (against better judgement) and pushed in all the ic-chips into their seats. All of them “crunched”. Closed the unit, and for a brief moment the full range came back in, before fizzling out (literally) and I’m back to where I started. It does indicate a bad connection in the full range circuitry. If anyone has schematics, I could narrow down where to spray de-ox... will continue tomorrow.
I just grabbed a second one of these heads off eBay. Tomorrow, I'm picking up a Firebass head and 1820 cab. My plan for that cab is quite literally to never move it. I really like the old Peavey bass stuff, as evidenced by my growing collection. Currently at two Megabass heads, an AlphaBass head, fifteen US made Peavey basses, and the incoming Firebass/1820. Planning to biamp the 1820 with a Megabass. Maybe a second 1820, and biamp both of them with the two Megabass heads. Did I mention almost all my gigs these days are direct/ears, no amps??
The megabass is very good through an 1820 but I thought I got a better sound using a probass 1000 and a CS800. More clarity, depth, complexity and fullness.
Looks like my eBay Megabass is headed to Meridian. No worky. I opted to keep it, got a partial refund on it. It powers up, but that's it.
Just picked one of these up locally on offer up. Originally listed for $50, went down to $20 so I called the guy and he said come over and get it today for free because he was moving that day and was getting ready to take off for Texas. Picked it up and plugged it into my peavey cabs in biamp configuration and was surprised how good it sounded. It is now one of my backup heads. I like to have 2 or 3 for a little peace of mind after having minor troubles with both of my other heads recently. Can I have a number?

Congratulations, you surely got blessed. I got my first one for $10 and all that was wrong with it was the Send/Return jack was open. Got it home and had it fixed in minutes. I have 2 and a T-Max but, at those prices I'd take some more. for backup's.
