Peavey MiniMega 1000

This is amazing! The MiniMega is the most transparent amp I've used and the SCR-DI SCREAMS S-V-T through it!
If you haven't tried this then you should! It'll knock your socks off!!!
I'm playing it through a Berg HDN210 with a CN112 on the bottom.

I had those exact speakers...I BET this amp is a monster through those. I must say, I'm impressed by the job Peavey did with their new PVH line...since my last boxes were those Bergantinos'. I also look forward to utilizing some effects with mine! NICE rig~

I've been thinking about this amp for a while and finally came across a great deal - so even though I am flush with amps.....I had to pull the trigger....

TLDR?

I had a chance to put it through its paces solo - and man is this thing is the real deal: Thick, clean, power with tons of headroom. It's exactly what I was hoping for.

Long Version:

I was looking for the right amp to pair with my 8 ohm PVH 1516 in a loud, dense Metal setting.

So I put it the Mega head-to-head vs the Quilter BB800 and the Mesa Carbine M6 in a battle of amps known to SLAM.

I am a hard hitter and I want clean, meaty power that doesn't clip when I crank it and really dig in.

It was a close competition and literally different flavours of awesome, but here's how things netted out for me - running at 8 ohms into the PVH1516

The Quilter was a little brighter, a little thinner and a little tighter/punchier - especially down low. It doesn't go as low as the Mega - and it doesn't go as loud while staying clean and starts getting a little bit hairy at higher volumes (Gain at 1:30, Master at 3 o'clock) . The Quilter doesn't really clip - at least not in the traditional way. It's built in limiter just kind of compresses things in a pleasant way. This is a bonus for me.

The M6 is even more brighter than the Quilter, it goes as low as the Mega and has more clarity delivering a tone that is full and rich in comparison but perhaps a tad scooped in the low mids. It runs out of steam quickly at 8 ohms though. Noon at both Gain and Master is hair city and it's easy to drive into clipping at this volume. Not going to work with this cab

The Mega is louder, cleaner and thicker than both at high volumes. I have to hit extremely hard to clip but its tone does not have the clarity or richness of the M6.

End result:
Mega wins the day and appears to be a keeper
Love the M6 but I can only run it a 4 ohms
The Quilter is great but doesn't have the thickness or headroom of the Mega - or the richness and depth of tone of the M6. I've also struggled a little with its 2 knob EQ in some situations and quite honestly it's graphics are really starting to bother me too. So it'll probably be hitting the classifieds soon

Really great info! My decision to purchase the miniMega was purely based on great reports LIKE THIS. I just don't have the funds OR the exposure to bass gear and rely pretty heavily on this community to make the most informed decisions AFTER weeding through the opinion/fanperson parts and finding solid information. Thanks for the un-biased report...good stuff!

Loud, metal setting in a fairly big practice room.
Gain around 1 o'clock, Master at Noon. No problem cutting through with excellent thump and clarity.
A little grit when digging in - sweet and melodic during quieter passages
About 30 mins in the drummer looks at me and says 'I can hear every note...I F'n LOVE it!'
So happy to be back with a full Peavey rig again.

This post has me wanting to trade in my Markbass LMII. My backup amp and cabs are all Peavey.

1516 cab looks great! I opted for 2 PVH212s but I'd like to have a pair of those as well! Great looking (and I'm sure sounding) rig!

If I could find another 1516 I would buy it for sure. Then I would sell my Subway 112/115 stack. Its a great stack but I haven't found I miss it - even with just one 1516.

The total cost of my brand new Mega/1516 rig was $1100 CAN$ + tax. That's the cost of one Subway 115 here.

This Peavey gear is just ridiculous value and sounds great

That's great to hear. I was overjoyed to hear the Peavey stuff was what I needed. It had been 35 YEARS since I had a Peavey rig...this one is SO much more than the old school stuff (Mark IV/115/212-to be fair it held it's own just fine) and I didn't hafta sell my car to own a great amp. Not making any attempt at dissing other people's gear...play what works for YOU and I (we!) will play what works for me (us!). Rock whatcha GOT!!

I'm actually trading in my Ampeg SVT 4 Pro for the MiniMega next week -06-2019 ..Im tired of lugging around that heavy ass basshead - plus its a 2006 model which was when Ampeg was in transition and Quality Control suffered tremendously. So I have some of the notorious issues with the amp cutting out on volume and tone - I opened it up and theres some resoldering that was already done to it before I bought it "used" last year - I always loved Ampeg but its nothing like it used to be - piss on Ampeg

If youre running two 4 ohm cabs, then you would be at 2 ohms which is not gonna work with the MiniMega...nor would a 4 ohm cab and an 8 ohm cab.
If youre not digging the tone then I would return it...if you can. I wasn't in love with the tone at first but after some knob twisting, I am good....however I bought a Tech 21 DP-3X recently, and I use it with every head I own...incredible! Especially when combined with the power and thump of the MiniMega.

lol I bought the SVT 7 Pro first - it cut out on me the first day - the same thing with the SVT 4 Pro - it drops volume and tone to a low sizzling signal output - like a transistor radio sound- I called Ampeg a few weeks ago and talked to a CS rep - Since mine was a 2006 model it was the same year Ampeg was in transition of ownership and things were out of hand as far as Quality Control etc. He proceeded to tell me that Ampeg redesigned the PCB board that is faulty and to purchase the new upgraded version runs about $550.00 USD . I told him I know its not his responsibility but with a international brand name and reputation that Ampeg has you woud think they would honor their product and customers by having something similar to a "recall" and exchange the bad PCB boards in the model years that are notorious for that known problem . It doesnt matter if the board goes out within a day or 4 years they KNOW its going to eventually no matter how well you take care of your gear. Its not a question of "IF" it goes out its a matter of "WHEN" . One bassist might use his Ampeg 12 times a year - so his may last 2 or 4 years - with less frequent usage. The next guy might gig 3 times a month and use his for rehearsals as well so his will go out way sooner -more than likely. I dont know the statistics but I'd like to see one thats a 2006 that hasnt gone out YET or at all . I highly doubt theres one that exists. Either way I absolutely miss the Ampeg tone and it just sucks that I'll have to spend an arm and a nut on one that is newer and more dependable --Hopefully ! i lost alot of trust in Ampeg -especially going through 2 SVT Pros within a year- I had a ealy 2000's version of the SVT 4 Pro that was a workhorse - no issues and i beat the ever loving piss out of it touring..the tone was exceptionally awesome- I had to sell it in 2012 when i got divorced so I could pay attorney fees and court costs - fkn sucks man - im hoping I can find the sweetspot with this peavey -- im just trying to achieve that ampeg svt tone and sustain with rip with this Peavey and its not happening - i doubt it will at all - even on a slide up the neck - it doesnt have that rip and sustain AT ALL .. thats 75% of my style and tone -- IDk ..Ill keep trying
