i need a good bass thats going to last me for a while thats under 300 bucks. so right now its between the ibanez sr300 or the peavey mellinium....im having hard time deciding, so help me out! i only play at church on sunday and of course other serviices that we may have.

For $300 you can buy a better quality, better looking, better sounding Peavey than you can an Ibanez.

You can pick up a used Peavey Dyna Bass that sounds and plays awesome for well under $300. For half your budget you can buy a used Fury or Foundation. All these guitars are US made and incredible bargains.

Ibanez... The 80's Roadstar models are well made and go for under $200. The Musician line isn't cheap anymore, but if you could find one in the $300 range, it would be an incredible buy. Either way, buy used. You can buy a nice Japanese made Ibanez rather than the ugly, mass-produced Korean/Indonesian stuff they're making today.

I own them both.. better bet is a Peavey USA.

Unfortunately there are tons of folks who have an opion who haven't owned them.

You can locate a Dyna that will be the sound you commonly hear on KLove etc.. when you're done you can cash it out and get your money back.

Don't overlook a Cirrus BXP.. if you find an indonesian one, it's about 90% of what my $2,000 USA custom shop basses are.

For the $400 budget, this opens you to custom shop basses.. $500 gets youto 5 stringers.

OPINION - IF you're playing the common Lincoln Brewster, Crowder, Casting Crowns, MW Smith etc.. much of this material is done on active basses.. Most of the "Mass Choir" type stuff is done on active 5s and 6s.

OPINION - If you're playing at church.. a part of the consideration is the quality of the sound team and/or if you're going direct... basses do react different in various band mixes and rooms.

If you reply back with a list of the material you're doing, chances are I can pinpoint a model that meets the requirement.

I own both. An Ibanez ATK and a Peavey Forum. I bought the ATK new from GC...love the sounds I can get out of it. Love the neck, etc, etc. It was my main player from the day I got it. I almost traded it away a couple of times that was me just being stupid though...)

I recently traded my back up for a used Peavey Forum. Playing it has made me put the ATK in a case and under my bed. The Peavey plays better, feels better, sounds better...and is made in USA. While the last point may or may not be important to everybody...it has become important to me.:D

So, long story short...I would go Peavey.:bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist:
