Peavey question

So no batteries, no sound. I was hoping the batteries could be switched on for enhanced response, switched off for, say, practice. A 2 pack of 9V runs at least $5-6. Becomes costly after a while.

This is the unfortunate truth for a lot of active basses. It's part of the reason why I don't like them.

Had a Guild Pilot once. Tried the EMGs without the battery. Nearly silent. Ripped them out and put DiMarzios in.

I think the general consensus is not that Cirrus BXP basses are bad in their own right, but compared to a US model, which, with a little searching and patience, can be found at surprisingly low prices, there is no contest which is the superior instrument. I've only ever had the fortune of playing US models, and they are extraordinary basses. I've had one or two that weren't treated well by previous owners, but they could still be dialed in easily and very well, leading to low action and very even tone across all strings. You would do well to buy a BXP, but, for possibly a couple hundred more, you could have the real deal, and be even better off.

Grinds, I've not had any experience with, and I've been on the lookout for a US Grind 5, which are as rare as hen's teeth, but do exist, as far as I know. There is a 4 on eBay right now, as a matter of fact.

Good luck with your search!!

Not sure where you buy batteries, but if you have a Menards anywhere near you, they often sell 8 packs of Rayovac 9v batteries for around $8. I've stockpiled them every time I see them on sale!!

Going to reiterate a lot of what has already been said I think. My third bass was a Cirrus BXP. Loved the thing. I was quite happy with it. So I got a US cirrus. HUGE upgrade. The USA Cirrus is awesome. It keeps the gas at bay because I have a hard time finding something I like as much. That being said at the time I liked my BXP. It was a decent bass. Had no huge complaints.
