Yup, I'm now stupidly jealous. That dark burst is just a beauty. I missed a cheap cheap t-40 on CL this past week and I can't get over it. Your pictures sure aren't helping...nice pair dude.
Thanks!..I sold the first one i owned and regretted it. The dark burst (bought it last month) is by FAR the best sounding out of the 3.

My first bass was my T-40, picked up in '92 for $50. Today it is essentially derelict however. It caught some damage in a freak stage accident (it was my backup) and I haven't touched it since. It will need some fret repair and I hope the neck is salvageable. Yes, I feel bad about it
I'd like to get it back amongst the living. Question: how do you date these things?

I think the guy that gave out numbers in this club is no longer here. I have been waiting for a number since May.
Why does my T-40 have a capacitor along the bridge ground wire to the output jack? Is that standard stuff? I've got some minor grounding issues and I'm wondering, what the heck?

I haven't looked inside my T-40, but that capacitor isn't on any of the wiring diagrams I've seen.
I've heard of people wiring a capacitor inline with the bridge ground to act as a one-way "safety," which would prevent them from being electrocuted in the event of a major equipment grounding failure. But, I don't think that Hartley Peavey and Chip Todd would have considered that a feature worth including on an otherwise brilliantly-designed instrument...

Peavey did use a capacitor in series with the bridge ground as a "safety" feature for a while. You can take it out of the circuit and have a hard ground. Doing so will only increase the shock hazard to the same level as 99.99999% of all other electric guitars/basses that have ever been built.

1. Got any plans to hide the old bridge mounting holes?
2. 5 string t-40 is an awesome idea.
yeah, I've got a plan, but first I want to get it set up and play it before I follow through on phase 2. It's going to look cool, and not that far away from stock when I'm done
So I did a little modification in hopes of defeating some clipping in the pickup.
Based on the suggestion from the T40 forum I clipped the red wires from the pickups to the tone pots. This disengaged the roll-off humbucker feature, puts both pups in HB mode (I think) and adds lots of top end sparkle. Still struggling with the clipping, but I've lowered the pickups significantly and that seems to help.

They rarely sell for over $400, and sometimes as low as $200 if you get a great deal. $350 seems to be the magic number if it's in good condition
