Peavey T-40 Lovers

how are the "natural" ones finished. I can feel the grain on mine, so it's obviously not sealed and laquered or poly'd
is it an oil finish? If so, what kind of oil? more importantly what should I be using to care for it. and what should I NOT be doing?

Originally posted by eilif on the T-40(who took a lot of time and effort to compile the info-thank you) enthusiast forum. Part of a large post in the technical info section. It doesn't say how to care for it but at least it says what it is:

Finishes- The most common T-40 body finish is a thin satin natural colored finish with the grain accenuated by the application of a walnut colored grain filler. The finish is not extremely hard, but not being gloss, natural T-40’s hide their dents well. Most other finishes are hard polyurethane gloss and include black, white, at least two types of sunburst (traditional and sienna), red, Blue, and burgundy. Orange has also been spotted, but it is unclear if it is a stock color, custom, or aftermarket refinish.

Hope that helps a little. Every T-40 owner should check the enthusiast forum out. There is a lot of useful information on it.

Really? The one I have coming is a 1985 dark tobacco burst...I didn't care really what I got as long as I got one back but I really wanted a black with maple fretboard...

I wonder if there can ever be such a thing as T40 swapping so some of us can get colors we are really wanting? :p Just a passing stupid thought probably :D

hey, SS! congrats on finally picking up a T40! :hyper:

I have an extra white body and a natural body to trade should anyone want one... :ninja:

like i said, i'm after "siennaburst" and blue.

Thanks ^_^ 'Godzilla' should be picked up by UPS Tuesday I hope and officially on its way to me :hyper::hyper:

Heres the auction link:

I should have a bead on a new nut for it and just got hooked up with a case for it I believe (well if the box fits *fingers crossed*). Needs some cleaning and this time around, I know a bit on how to set one up and I can't wait to wrap my hands around that baby then. To finally hold one set up right. Not sure if I got a good deal on it or not but there was just something about /that/ one that I really liked and I don't know what it was but I wanted /that/ one. :D Also helps the seller worked with me there too  Not sure if I overpaid for it BUT the seller was willing to wait so I was willing to pay what they wanted for it in return for the wait. Its not like my original one but its mine and thats all that matters.

Funny you should mention you have 2 T40 bodies for trade. There was a T40 neck on eBay a few days ago. Auctions over now and it got bids so it wont be back maybe. I wouldn't mind getting a project T40... 'Franken40' as I would dub it. :D I was all set to put trems in my Foundations and get them custom painted but I just can't bring myself to do such permanent mods on them. A parts bin bass seems the way to go for the trem and such.....imagine the 'tone monster' with a Trem...:hyper:

I'll drop you a PM. ^_^

I have two T-40 projects going on right now. One is a sunburst body with a rosewood neck, the other is a refinished gloss natural body with an original FL neck. I've pieced everything together for both basses except the electronics. I have the pickups but not the pots/switches. Pretty soon I'll be good to go. The necks should be here within a couple of weeks. I'll post pics when they're finished. Here's a sneak peak of the bodies:

CHILDISHGAMBINO, congrats on the T-40. I know the guy you bought it from. In fact, I got the sunburst T-40 body project seen above from him. Jerry is the most stand-up guy I've met in a long time.

Thanks Scott. Jerry was amazing to deal with. Couldn't have asked for a better person to deal with on my first international bass purchase.

Anyone thinking of buying a T-40 stop thinking and buy one. The only con that I can think of with them is choosing a tone to use from the many good ones available. A lot of basses can make a lot of different sounds but how many of them are good sounds? On a T-40 pretty much all of them are good!

What's going on with the US Peavey forum? It's been down for a few days.

Just a thought on the necks. I thought that going from my Foundation to the T would be difficult(look at the neck width difference in the pic!) but while the T neck is WIDE it is thin and really comfy to play. I think I'm starting to prefer the wider neck due to my large hands. The foundation neck is wonderful but I felt cramped sometimes because it's so narrow.
