Hello good people
So I am in a dilemma atm. Don’t know what to do. A guy did approach me regarding a swap deal for my G&L Tribute L2000. He wants to swap his Peavey T40 and he unfortunately lives on the other side of the country.
What do you think I should do? Should I go for it or not? View attachment 4755264View attachment 4755263
Thanks
Across what country?

I had a T40 for a short period of time and, while I was very excited to get it, it really didn’t do much for me. But I suppose it’s all a matter of taste like anything else… Someone else did mention that you’d probably be able to offload the T40 fairly easily… That may or may not be true… But with patience you can probably trade it for another Tribute if you wish you hadn’t made the exchange.

The T-40 being a blonde/natural body but with a rosewood fretboard is odd. I am use to seeing them with maple fretboards and always liked them.
Your call. I like T-40s but who is to say this is the one, if you are patient you may be able to get a better one close enough that you can try it first.

yeah, I was just popping back up to say this. I don't recall ever seeing a natural one with a rosewood board. might be worth doing some research.

Why is there a hole at the 20th fret ? Bone dry rosewood board does give some protection against glue seam split , ask them for photos with the back of the neck just to make sure.
It also has a brass nut (which might be a plus or a minus for a buyer, but either way it isn't original), mismatched strings, and extra holes in the pickguard. At the very least I'd be demanding photos of the back of the body, neck, and headstock.

I love my T-40 and my T-45, but - unless you are very familiar with the T-40 (how they generally feel, the pickup positions, etc) and if you are already intimate with how it relates to your own personal playing techniques - I wouldn't trade a L2K for one

I own a USA L2000 and a T40; mine are both in excellent condition. (My T-40 is natural w/ rosewood fretboard, BTW.)

I would not trade either.

That said, as said, the Tribute is certainly lesser than a good condition T-40.

But, not sure that's a good condition T-40.

Also, FWIW, that apparent fretboard hole would drive my crazy until repaired. And mebbe even then ...

Also, US$25 minimum for new strings, and are those extra holes in the pickguard? (You can get pickguards around US$30-35, but why are they there?) Keys look kinda corroded ...

I'd go American made every time. Better resale value when the GAS bug resurfaces and may increase in value. My '73 Fender Precision cost me $300 back in the late 70's and would never be worth more than that because it wasn't "pre-CBS". Not that I'd ever sell it but look at what it would go for now. Plus those T-40s are becoming rare birds.

When I look at the pictures on my Laptop instead of iPhone, I would have to say wait for a better condition T-40

Yeah! The weight right?
Exactly. I bought one of those used for my son back in about 1990 so he could play bass in the high-school Jazz Band. I asked him earlier this year if he remembers it and what he thought of it. He says that he remembers it was "Damn heavy". If you get it, put a 3½" leather strap or padded strap on it...you'll need it.

I don't really see the appeal in the T-40. I've owned a few of them. The tuners suck. Bass doesn't sound or play particularly well to me. They were cool when worth $400-$500. Now that people are asking closer to 1k for them I'd happily stay away forever. No idea what the G&L is worth.
