Double Bass Pedal for 3 Sigma IRs

Question for those using 3 Sigma acoustic upright IRs: which pedal/device do you store the IRs for live performances? THX.

The are lots of pedals that you can load impulse responses into. If you want a pedal that just does loads the impulse response (plus some eq) then the Mooer Radar is one of the cheapest options. I use the 3 Sigma Audio IRs in the Radar and it works very well. However, it can only load one IR at a time, so if you want to use reverb IRs at the same time, you need to do some work in a DAW to combine them. Many of the new multi-effects/amp sims like the Line6 Helix of Kempler can load many IRs, but they come at a much higher price tag and maybe a lot of effects you don’t need.

I have separate reverb pedal (EBS Dynaverb) so this is not an issue. Which of the 3 IRs are you using? What music do you use it for? Thank you.

I’m using the German Bass IRs with my EUB and the French Cello IRs with my electric cello. The impulse responses add some body to the electric tone and really helps. I have actually edited the impulses it get them even closer to an acoustic sound by EQ matching - I recorded my acoustic cello and my electric cello with just my favourite IR in the signal chain, and then matched the eq between the two. I added that EQ curve back on the impulse response and saved that to give me an impulse response I’m really happy with. It’s easy to do if you’ve done any recording - there are plugins that do the EQ matching so it only takes half and hour to do.

I’ve used the impulse responses in a blues band and a folk band I’ve been in, plus a church, and while it still isn’t an exact copy of an acoustic sound, I’m pretty happy with how it sounds

I don't think I will do any editing. I plan to use the IR "as is".

Do you think you would still be happy with the German Bass IR without the additional editing?

Don’t expect it to make it sound just like an acoustic upright bass because of things like the sustain is different, but it definitely give it a lot of an acoustic uprights vibe. I don’t play without them - it is a central part of getting a convincing tone for me

No, in fact I’m sure most people that use them just use them as is.
