Hello all. I've been playing a double bass for a while but have never adjusted my sound. I usually play an electric through a Behringer Ultra Bass 4x10 and when I switch to my upright, I just plug it straight in from my Fishman pickup. I know I know...feedback city. I adjust my settings and stand clear from the amp. However I have a Boss ME-120B and was wondering if I could use this as an equalizer/preamp for my upright. Any suggestions?

Double Bass Pedal for Double Bass Feedback?

The boss ME-20B isn't going to help too much, best you can use on it is the compressor, which helps a bit. My advice is to sell the Boss and pick up a preamp. I had some feedback problems but mostly a tone issue so I purchased a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. It solved the problem and gave me beautiful tone to work with. It has settings for the different kinds of feedback you will experience so the problem of feedback can be totally contained. There are other preamps out there so look at them all and decide which suits your needs best.
You need something with one or two bands of parametric EQ, so you can zoom in on and reduce the hot frequency band without cutting out the good stuff.

Unfortunately, except for compression the Boss doesn't get at the things that cause feedback. FDeck Invalid Link Removed builds a very nice pre amp that is a Swiss Army Knife for Double Bass. Series I has an adjustable high pass filter, phase reverse, and 10 meg ohm load. Series II has adds a Volume Control and Battery Indicator Light. Fishman's Pro Platinum EQ is also a very good box but it costs a good deal more. It has the added features of a DI and Graphic EQ. Topping the list is the Headway EDB-1 or The Radial PZ Pre costing @$300.00.

The most effective tool for feedback is a parametric eq. There are a few pedals out there that do this. Anything else and you'll be removing adjacent frequencies that you need.
I like the fishman pro plat Bass EQ also. It not only has five band graphic EQ, it also has a depth knob (high pass filter?) that really helps with feedback. The phase switch has helped me upon occasion also, but that depth knob is a godsend for me when using amps supplied as a backline by sound companies that hear "bass" and knee-jerk supply an 810 and ampeg head.
If you could find one, the Fishman Dual Parametric direct box is a much better piece of gear than the Platinum. (the engineers at Fishman think so too). You really have to hunt one down as they haven't been made for a few years. An engineer at Fishman told me that he thought it was the singe best piece of gear that they made. But nobody bought them. Which has turned it into a cult classic and now they get snatched right up.

What about the Fishman B-11 Preamp? I previously mentioned that I already have a Fishman pickup on it...would that be a good match that would work together?
