Pedal repair drama... Is this normal procedure?

He used to tape over the logo on his signature Peavey bass as well :smug: Seems like he does that a lot.

So, I took a delightful drive over the mountain, and paid a visit to local TB'er (and pedal modder/builder) karter2000 this evening. Many people approached me to help me fix the problem with my pedal, but karter2000 was just a short drive away, so I figured he was a good place to start.

After the obligatory niceties of introducing oneself to someone new, karter2000 got right down to business. He opened the enclosure, plugged in cables and adapter, and busted out the voltmeter. Apparently it powered up alright, but at first the LED would not light up. After some switching on and off and poking around, the LED decided to come on. He was also able to get sound.

Wahooo! IT LIVES AGAIN!!!:bassist:

Unfortunately the diagnosis is still somewhat a mystery, as he is unsure of what he might have done to get it to work again. The running theory is that the switch may be buggy, but that may or may not explain why the LED wouldn't light. I'm going to stomp the hell out of it tomorrow night and see if I can't make it stop working again... Lord knows it was dead as a doornail last time I had a go with it. I'm also going to pay attention to what adapter I use, in case that makes a difference.

In the meantime:

Many many thanks to all the TBer's who offered to help me free of charge, to everyone who offered suggestions on troubleshooting and to those who affirmed I wasn't nuts in thinking I was being mistreated. Many thanks to karter2000 for reachin' out and saving me $$BEAUCOUP DOLLARS$$!!! I have learned a lot through this little exercise, not the least of which is to consult TB first!! I shudder to think of how things might have turned out if PEI had actually gotten me to send my money and pedal!

Actually, I did get one more email from Jack Brossart of Prescription Electronics. I received it on Monday, but decided against posting it here for the time being. At the risk of misrepresenting his intentions, here are a few of the points made in his last email:

He begins by asking whether or not I've ever had a bad day and taken it out on someone else. (to me, this is not how you apologize for mistreating someone)

He mentions something about the privacy of our email dialogue and goes on to say that he doesn't care about what anyone else in this thread thinks. (really?:eyebrow:)

He explains how using PayPal has not worked out very well for him in the past.

He then goes on to say that his original offer still stands and that if I was to send him the $100 and the pedal, he will fix it for me, after all, I am not the original owner and who knows what may have been done to the pedal. Apparently he can see from the pictures I posted that it has been modded and there could be something wrong with the switch. (I guess he didn't make it to the part where I got it sorted.. for now.. over the weekend. Thanks again karter2000! Also, if it IS modded, it sure sounds HELLA GOOD... Maybe he should think about changing his circuit. :D)

Anyway... I didn't bother responding to his email (as much fun as the devil in me suggested it might be to poke a grouchy pedal maker). Pedal fixed for now, with many resources other than Prescription Electronics Inc. to get it fixed if the problems rears its head again. GO TB!!! Never before have I been so glad to support this forum. Money very well spent.
