Pedal Suggestions for an experimental hardcore band

My suggestions (based on past experience, and the genre "experimental/hardcore"):

Wounded Paw Attack Goat (fuzz. blendable. nuff said)
EHX English Muff'n (tube fuzz | change out the tube for AX7s tho)
Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb (gated plate verb FTW)
Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus (or a phase/flanger, depending on if you want a big wooshing sound or not)
Boss DD-20 Giga Delay/Looper (experimental = delay required IMO, plus its a looper!)
Boss MD-2 (distortion with a bass controll. use this if you want to severly **** up you bass' natural sound)
Boss NS-2 (noise gait. depending on the gain you end up pumping, it may be a requirement....)

I personally love my Micro POG for the desire for a 10-string that I'll always have but the lack of practicality for a singular bass that will always be there (as well as effects you couldn't get via stringed bass) and my Xotic RC Booster and BB Preamp OD/Distortion. The former the cleanest boost/2-band EQ pedal I've ever heard, and the latter one of the best "SVT in a Box" Overdrives although it's hardly limited to that, just my ability without coffee to describe it. :smug:

Nate Newton of Converge uses a Boss ODB-3 and a big muff.

He also said in this in Bass Player magazine:
“I have been trying to ween myself off the pedals. Distortion pedals are for people who don’t know how to buy the right amp, or for people who actually do know what they are doing with gear. Too many people use them nowadays, and everyone has that same distortion tone. I want to have a sound that is my own.”

The comments I posted are a bit out of context :) He is kinda having a dig at himself. He is in the 'I don't know what to do with my gear' side of the comment.

But yeah, I see what your saying too. There are heaps and heaps of sound options available with distortions etc. More than just using the 'right' amp IMO.

okay just because fugazi doesn't use effects, doesnt mean our music isn't influenced on fugazi, so this has no bearing on my question.

i don't really need any SVT-in-a-box type deals because i've got a Marshall VBA400, but these fuzz suggestions i may look into.

i've never used delay with a bass, anyone have any good examples of what it sounds like?

joe lally is one of my favorite bassists, but what relevance does he have in this thread???? a person is asking for what type of effects he should use .... he is not trying to find gear opinions with someone who doesn't use them. anyways.... when i think of experimental, i automatically think modulation effects. perhaps look into some other threads and see which one may catch your eye best (there are too many to name). a delay is also essential.

He mentioned he liked the sounds of Fugazi. They don't use FX. That's what it has to do with this thread. :rolleyes:

Read the original post... The OP asked for pedal suggestions for a band along the lines of Fugazi, Botch and Converge etc. Being a Bass forum, its pretty obvious the OP is a bass player.

The thread replies are just stating that Fugazi doesn't use effects. My reply stated the converge bassist uses very few and is looking into using none. They are perfectly valid responses. No one said the OP can't use effects, just that the bands bassists he mentioned pretty much don't (wouldn't have a clue about Botch...)
