Pedals live

Hi guys,
This is my first post on here so I'm very new to how all of this works?
I played a gig the other day and I used my BOSS ODB-3 overdrive for a few songs but the sound engineer recommended that I don't use the pedal live as the sound front of house was fairly poor as a result of the overdrive. I was wondering, could I go into a DI then into an effects pedal and then into my amp? (which would also be going through the desk directly or through a mic). Just to get both the straight bass sound and also the overdrive with it?

Certainly, that would be an ideal solution.

IMO, distortion sounds terrible through a DI unless it's designed specifically for it. The solution of sending a DI signal pre distortion then a mic'd cab with the distortion in it is perfect.
