Pedulla MVP-5 Preamp/Pickup Problem

I have thought of a possible solution, but I'm taking it back whence I bought it this weekend to see if we can sort something else out (not getting rid of the bass though). My possible solution is to remove the dual 50k blend pot and replace it with a 500k blend pot, with the pickups going direct to the wipers instead of via the buffers (so forget wires yellow 2 and yellow 3, and green 2 and green 3). Not ideal but I think it would work.

And to conclude: I took it back to the shop, who took it to his tame luthier to check over. The luthier's conclusion was the same as mine and he's bypassed the buffer stages (I haven't looked to see if he changed the value of the pot). All working OK now with no nasty noises.
