Pedulla Pentabuzz owners give me your observations

i've played a few pentabuzzes (albeit a while ago), and i've
owned my 6 string thunderbuzz w/ zebrawood top for 13 years
(bought it in 94).

i think the big difference is the pentabuzz has more of a hard
finish on the neck vs the thunderbuzz, which has a tung
oil finish all over. (i might be wrong, its been a while
since i've played the penta...)

you probably get more "mwaa" with the penta, but the
thunder has much more of a woody sound (easy to
get a upright-ish sound on it)

i use nickel strings and dont have too much of a issue
with neck wear; every so often i use 0000# steel wool
to smooth it out.

awesome bass, very well made. I love playing it every
time i pick it up. I'm not a huge fan of the thundergutz
circuitry, but the bartolini's sound great

My pentabuzz was my main bass for probably 10 years, until I bought an Alembic. Great action, and very adjustable. Later after I started building I'm surprised that I put up with the thin sound for so long though. It was very crisp and responsive, but didn't have much meat to the sound. And the neck was like a twig. It was a Bart PJ with the EZQ though (which may not be available anymore), and I always played it with rounds. These days I like the sound of naked ebony on the fingerboard with TI flats better. But like I said, the Pedulla had amazing action and playability.

I still think the Pentabuzz is let down by the Bartolini pickups, change those pick ups though and the bass really delivers.
