Pedulla Truss Rods - DAMN!

Went to adjust the truss on my new (to me) Pedulla. Got my trusty allen wrenches together, popped off the truss cover and then I'm staring at this male, square-shaped truss end. Why the h3ll does Pedulla use this kind of end on the rod???? Looked thru all my tools (and I have alot of them as I work on motorcycles a lot) and could not find anything that will work in such a tight space. Looked on Pedulla's website and they will mail you for $25 if you send them a money order and that will take a couple of weeks.

I REALLY need to get the relief out of this neck before my gig this weekend. Any ideas? Anybody found a good tool at Home Depot, etc that works or if you have an extra Pedulla tool, I'll buy it now from ya. Help a fellow bassist out ;) :help: !!!

Email Pedulla and ask them if there is anything that you can use in a pinch until you order one of theirs. They are usually pretty helpful!

Do not use anything other than a Pedulla trussrod tool! My advice would be to visit your local GC. Most of 'em have a Rapture somewhere. Maybe ask the clerk if you could borrow it(the tool, that is)? If not, buy the Rapture (make sure the tool is in the case), adjust your neck and then return the Rapture. One other avenue is you could check around with your local repair guys. I brought my Thunderbolt in for a setup and he was already aware of and had the unique tool! Good luck!

... in the butt. Some kind of remnant from the 80's, kept on by cynical marketing. I hate that.

I had a hexabuzz for years, loved the bass, hated the truss rod. A totally silly thing.

Sold it to finance my MTD 635-24 habit.

Good luck.

C.

Make sure you have the right tool or you will strip it. I'm sure a local repair guy Guitar Center can help you in the mean time. Remeber that it is a VERY, VERY, VERY sensitive truss rod and moves a huge amount with a small turn. Honestly, it's the best, most responsive system I've come across, just make sure you know what you're doing before you do it. Steve

From Pedulla site:

Ordering a Pedulla Owner’s Kit
The Owner’s Kit contains the trussrod wrench (the ONLY wrench you should use to adjust your Pedulla bass) and an Owner’s Manual. To order an Owner’s Kit for delivery within the continental U.S.:

Send certified check or money order (We do not process credit or debit card payments, nor do we accept personal or business checks - sorry)
Make it payable in US dollars for $23.50 to:

M.V. Pedulla Guitars, Inc.
P.O. Box 226
Rockland, MA 02370-0226

Include your name, street address, daytime telephone number.
Note: You must also include the serial number of the bass the Owner’s Kit is for (the serial number is located on the back of the headstock). Thank you.
Indicate that payment is for an Owner’s Kit.
Within 5 business days of receiving your order/payment, we will ship the Owner’s Kit via UPS ground service.

If you are outside the continental U.S., please contact [email protected] for pricing including shipping.

edit: oops didn't read your post close enough, sorry.

The Guitar Center idea is a good one.

I do not agree at all that they have a bad design. OK, it is non-standard, and you need their wrench. However, my experience is that their truss design works better than any other i've ever used.

WARNING: there are two other non-standard things to know.

First of all the action is backwards from every other design. Turning the rod counter clockwise as you look at it will remove relief from the neck, rather than adding it.

Second, the action is VERY fast acting. A little goes a LONG way; so, be cool with it.

After you get past the eccentricities, they have quite an excellent design. Don't dis it, just try to understand it. It really works well. My 2c.

A fine design it may be, but at those prices, the "owner's kit" should have come with the bass. Even Fender includes an owner's manual and a truss rod tool. Or maybe a "new" one does come with the kit, and the op has a used one? In which case, ignore this post :)

Honestly, I think if you get a new bass, you get a tool. IME at least.

I think the GC idea is certainly the best for a 'in a pinch' scenario. Can't say I had thought of that immediately, but man TB is helfpul sometimes!

Pedulla does include the kit with a new bass. The potential pitfalls are, someone at Pedulla forgot to put the kit in, someone at the store where you bought it stole it, or someone else bought it and returned it sans wrench as people are suggesting you do. If you purchased the item new, force the dealer to provide the wrench.
