People taking pix and vids at gigs

My BL takes dozens of selfies with people at the gig. She even takes selfies of us.:roflmao:

What really ticks me off is when I paid a lot of money to see a BAND perform, and instead what I get to watch is VIDEOS of the band performing, as seen on the cellphones of all of the people who are standing in front of me recording it and preventing me from seeing the ACTUAL BAND itself.

If I wanted to watch VIDEOS of the band, I would have stayed home and watched them on YouTube.

The polite way to record live shows is to hold your phone in front of your OWN face or chest so that you are not blocking anybody's view but potentially your own.

I have fantasies about bringing a little straw with some sharp pointed BB's and shooting people's phone screens with it if they are blocking my view, hopefully with enough force to make a permanent mark on the screen. OK, I admit, that's the slightly watered down version of my fantasy....

And yes, if I bought a front row seat, I wouldn't have to complain about this. I would only have to complain about the poor sound quality instead.

Caught The Strokes last week here in town. The couple in the seats in front of us had their phones at the ready from the first note played, they were in their 50's. I took a look at the screen and the father was face timing his teenage daughter as the band played one of their hits.
Watching that girl on their screen was the highlight of the night for me! She was obviously at home, I could see books surrounding her, but this kid was rockin out! She should have been there! Smile from here was ear to ear!
Yah, lots of folks had their phones out...
Here's a link to the song...

Cool song, thanks for posting, will have to check these guy out. I'm always looking for new music but there are so many bands it's hard to find one I like.

HaHa... :)...

I swear I paused before using the words I did and couldnt think of the right words for it :) . THAT'S my age showing for sure.

The least you can do is help me out here! What should I have said?

Also... I'm waiting for the wise ass that's going to say, "That's just your band Joe. People still take pix and vids of mine."
“Video recording”—- no tape involved.

I often tell my wife- “ I’m taping a show on TV.
No VCR , no tape. -:)

I've never understood the selfie thing. I know I am there. I know what I look like.
More often than not I believe it has to do with self esteem issues. People who need to continually post pictures and videos of themselves have a strong need for acceptance and the affirmation of others.

I honestly love it when people record videos when my band is playing! I'm in college so a lot of the girls that come to my band's shows record themselves and their friends singing along every time they recognize a song. It's a pretty cool feeling the next day when you can go back and see that everyone was having a good time!

Plus my originals band doesn't make enough money to hire photographers, so it's nice to end up with some pictures of the band after the gig. (Even if the videos are mainly selfies, 9/10 times the girls are a lot prettier than me!)
