Perfect end to end Albums/CD's

Funny. I didn't list my copy of Parliaments Tear the Roof Off 1974-1980, as it's a compilation. The thing is, I got to know it as a complete - end to end album. So to me it still works, even though it's a greatest hits. It contains most of the Mothership Connection album, anyway. It's the same with my Waterboys Greatest Hits. If that's the only album you've heard, it can become a complete, end to end listen (if it's done right). A good Greatest Hits album can also tell a complete story, IMHO. I have to agree on the Bonus tracks on the Bowie albums. As soon as I ripped the Bowie CDs onto my hard drive, I deleted those 'Bonus' tracks. I really didn't like them being there. They seemed so out of place.

I have that compilation too, it could definitely make this list, but Mothership Connection makes my list for songs like Handcuffs, Unfunky UFO, and Night of the Thumpasaurus Peoples, i.e. the songs that don't make a greatest hits compilation.

I don't have a problem as such with greatest hits or mixtapes. An individual album makes an artistic statement by arranging and presenting a certain set of tunes in a certain order. A compilation or a mix is the same thing except done by someone other than the original artist.

Sometimes i put my whole Amazon library on shuffle, but there are certain songs that just belong together.

I don't mind bonus tracks if they tack them on at the end.

Very few of my favorite albums are perfect start to finish but these would be close…Jellyfish-Spilt Milk
King's X-Gretchen Goes To Nebraska or maybe Faith, Hope, Love
Led Zeppelin; Probably one of their albums...whichever you choose or don't choose, you are correct.
Miles Davis- Kind of Blue (one of three jazz albums I own but I do love it)
Queensryche- Operation Mindcrime
Sting-Soul Cages

Honorable mentions-
Badlands - Badlands.... This wasn't your typical 80's hair metal and it wasn't just drugged out LA sleeze either. This isn't perfect but it's pretty close.
Counting Crows - August And Everything After-almost every other song is good but after all these years the lyrics impress me more and more.
INXS- I love Kick, but again, whichever you choose or don't, you are correct. Michael Hutchence had one of the coolest voices ever; if you disagree with me on that then you are wrong and we can't be friends...ever.
John Mayer - any of his first three.
Terence Trent D'Arby - Symphony or Damn
.....and a host of other albums I love but aren't quite perfect end to end.

This is what makes music so great , Different folks hear different things, In my mind those (2) always connect, Both have a big syncopated riff , Brubecks' band goes into a swing -based solo section,
YYZ goes into that melodic minor half step solo excursion.. It's not the notes, it's the form/feel.

This simply MUST be listened to from beginning to end. However, you have to start with side 2. Don't ask me why, but it speaks for itself once you start listening. And having a good subwoofer is a strong plus, if only for only a very few spots.

Dude yesssssssss. Thrice are so slept on. The Alchemy Index is total brilliance.

I have to say that I'd place Origin of Symmetry over Absolution, but both are start to finish albums for me. I'd also put Kid A/Amnesiac over OK Computer but again, all excellent albums.

I love a lot of classic prog rock, and many of the pillars of that era demand a full playthrough. Examples of late:

Yes - Close to the Edge, Tales, Relayer especially.
Gentle Giant - In a Glass House, Octopus
Hatfield and the North - S/T, Rotters Club
National Health - Of Queues and Cures
Genesis - Foxtrot, The Lamb
The Beatles (You can't tell me they're not progressive) - Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road
Pink Floyd - Meddle, Dark Side, Animals, WYWH
Rush - Hemispheres, Farewell to Kings
Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte
Soooo many more..

And some modern classics (not necessarily prog):

Beirut - The Flying Cup Club
Cardiacs - Sing to God
The Dear Hunter - All of the Acts abums, seriously this band's output is amazing and the cross-album storyline makes it all the more compelling.

Ugh, how did I not mention Sigur Ros? I used to put () and Takk on and blast through my programming homework like it was no time at all. Minus the Bear, for me, are more of a song-by-song deal, but the songs of theirs that I like, I love. I'll have to check out some of your other mentions. I just got introduced to Porcupine Tree. Some random guy at one of our shows loves them and figured we must love them, too.

Sigur Ros is one of my favorite bands. I got to see them at the end of their Valtari tour, and they peppered their set with some of the Kveikur tracks, it was an incredible show.Given what you've already mentioned, I'd recommend trying out Minus the Bear's Planet of Ice album, it's consistently great from start to finish. You might also like The Dear Hunter's Act I, Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest, Oceansize's Effloresce, Porcupine Tree's Deadwing and/or Signify, and The Tea Club's Rabbit, all excellent, melancholic rock.

I've got Planet of Ice, but I'm not sure I've listened to it straight through before. And Sigur Ros puts on an amazing show. I saw them at Bonnaroo one year. They played the late set and most people had gone to bed. I just lay on my blanket and watched the stars for most of it. Pure magic.
