I thought you lot of you folks would appreciate this quote from Fieldy, taken from the Korn article in the current Guitar Center pamphlet:

"[The guitars are] so low that it needs something to cut through. I don't like bass. There's enough low end in the guitars for me. I wouldn't mind, like, if it didn't cost money, to hire a bass player and let me be the percussion clicky [guy]."

Why is fieldy being discussed on a bass guitar forum? I'm still trying to figure out how he got into the bass magazine? Fwiw I went through an 'I like Korn' phase - even then I didn't get his, er, style...

And a comment to detuned guitars- when are people going to figure out it doesn't make the music heavier? AIC is my favorite band of all time - they mostly tune to Eb standard, and nobody except Tony Iommi has ever come close to the 'heavy' of Cantrell's riffs.

lol at jerry cantrell being heavy. i guess radio rock guys are as heavy as it gets.

and lets be clear: i love jerry cantrell and almost every release hes done.

It must be weird being Fieldy. I wonder if he knows how much his sound is derided by others who play bass guitar? Imagine being loathed for the one thing you are known for and built a career on. At least he's honest with himself about it. Would Korn have been any better if he had played a Jazz bass and boosted the mids? I tend to think not.

Trolling? Errr... no. And I didn't set the tone of the thread - the OP did. Nice try though.

I'll give Pike credit for having the most godawful guitar sound I've ever heard. I don't think his various music is particularly heavy. But I can't stand stoner doom stuff.

For me - heavy is more than the tuning, which apparently it isn't for some others. Heavy comes, for me, from the subject matter of the song. AIC wins, hands down for me. Pretty dark stuff - without falling into the campy metal arena that death/doom/core bands do.

But hey, that's my opinion :-)
