The lyrics certainly compliment it. A lot. If you notice, Cantrell without Staley isn't quite the same. I would say the bendy thing ( Think What the Hell Have I) and his style along with tuning a half step down as a matter of course helps. I believe a lot of the way Cantrell developed as a guitarist was in direct response to writing music for Layne Staley's demons.

I think comparing Cantrell or AIC to those doom guys is pointless, but I fail to see where music that Cookie Monster sings lead is considered "Heavy". Music wise they were doing all that stuff 25 years ago. It's called thrash.

I'll give Pike credit for having the most godawful guitar sound I've ever heard. I don't think his various music is particularly heavy. But I can't stand stoner doom stuff.

For me - heavy is more than the tuning, which apparently it isn't for some others. Heavy comes, for me, from the subject matter of the song. AIC wins, hands down for me. Pretty dark stuff - without falling into the campy metal arena that death/doom/core bands do.

But hey, that's my opinion

Yes, actually. What point is a guitar playing heavy with no lyric and rhythm section doing their thing to create a complete, you know, song...

To the guy who mentioned Zep - I agree too. Much heavier songs than those who would flame you realize.

I find this heavy, especially from 1:20 to 2:00, it really start at 1:30 but you need that extra 10sec for the stwich to be effective.

There's so much out there in the world of "heavy" music (or music period) arguing that one band is heaviest is ridiculous. It's like saying that one painting is more of a painting because blah blah blah.

Saying AIC and Led Zep are THE heaviest bands is hilariously short sighted and narrow minded. And probably widely agreed to be wrong. If you have to pick a mainstream/classic rock/90's band to proclaim the heaviest, try Sabbath.

I don't like drop tuned guitars in general, but I have to say that as far as I know Black Sabbath did detune. Children of the Grave, if I remember correctly, is tuned down to C#.

And not just to be heavy. Iommi cut two of his fingers off and still wanted to play, so he used lighter strings and also increasingly lower tunings.

The thing about Korn is if you've heard one song you've heard them all. Even when I get an occasional request for Korn and I ask "which song?" I generally get "whatever".

I got the same pamphlet in the mail..I dont have it front of me but i think you combined two different statements, from two different band members. I think the guitarist said he didnt like bass and that the guitars are low enough,ect,...The statement about just making the clicky clack ect was fieldy..

Nope, I read it, too. All Fieldy.

Anyway, I'm no fan of Korn, but Fieldy found a way to be unique that's pretty much all his own, and that's a lot more than I can say about most of his bashers. I'm sure impressing other bassists is the farthest thing from his mind, anyway.
